Wipers stop in up position when off
This is a problem with a contact inside the wiper motor. What is suppose to happen is a channel called a derailer is selected when an internal contact is energized. The derailer relies on the last turn of the wiper motor to let everything slide into correct position.
Sometimes the contacts are serviceable by taking off the wiper motor and getting under a protective cover. Another thing you might try is to back off every mounting bolt you can reach and retighten them. Sometimes strange things happen when a part loses its ground circuit.
WON'T START
HHMMMM no idea without my head under the bonnet sorry hood ,could be the injectors are gummed up as you state you have a good pressure and it runs on a dope spray .Other than that i dont know what else offhand to suggest ,take the injectors out and try blowing them backwards with a air line it might work
Cooling fan relay
If the fan runs all the time, even when the engine is first started up and cold, then you probably have a bad temperature sensor switch. When that sensor fails, it keeps the fan on all the time so the car will never overheat...Chris
Where is the window fuse box
The fuse box is under the dash, drivers side, towards the left. The window fuse is a 30 amp that powers both windows.
There are lots of other reasons these Capri windows stop working, from bad switches to broken motor regulators.
If the fuse does not fix it, post again and we can figure out what is wrong...Chris
Running 70+ car studdered then lost power cranks
Check the timing belt, if it's broke the car won't start. It's a non-interference engine, so just replace the belt if needed, the engine is otherwise undamaged. While you are at it, replace the water pump and timing belt pulleys, not much extra labor for stuff that's going to have to be replaced one of these days anyway.
Shift Linkage for 1991 Mercury is loose
Your shifter bushings are worn out. Very easy fix. You can get shifter bushings from NAPA for about $2 ea, you need 4 of them. Drive the car onto ramps. Under the car there is a long rod that connects the shifter to the transmission. Unbolt the part connected to the shifter, remove old bushings (if they are still there), install new. Same for the where the shift rod connects to the transmission. 30 minute job, and it will shift great...Chris
Charging system
If the used alternator quit working then it\'s broke! Make sure your battery is not shorted internally as this could make an alternator work much harder than it needs to. Try getting the alternator repaired at a shop. Buying electrical parts at a junk yard is always a crap shoot...Chris
How to remove the radio
There are U shaped 'keys' that must be inserted into the holes on either side of the radio. These 'keys' can be purchased at most auto parts places, just tell them you have a ford radio to remove. They are cheap. Once you insert them, they release the radio and it can just be pulled out...Chris
Loose Gear Shift Lever
The car has to be on ramps.
When under the car have someone operate the shifter so you can see where the slop is in the shift linkages. The bushings that used to be there have disintegrated over time. You can buy new bushings at a Mazda dealership (tell them your car is the same as a 1989 323) and unbolt things and replace them. There is one bushing that won't unbolt and has to be cut out, which is why is fix these the cheap easy way.
Get some thick nylon tie wraps, and thread them into the gaps of the linkages. Keep feeding as many tie wraps as you can into the gaps. When you can;t force anymore in, tie off the straps, have someone operate the shifter and see if you can force a few more in.
When you're done, this repair is as good as the purchased bushings, and should last a long time...
