Rule of thumb, stay away from any engine that ends in .7 02 and 03 was a new engine design, not very good. 04 and up, the engine is better. I would shy away from older ones because it is hard to find good/new drive train parts.

Air bag light keeps coming on in my 1999 jeep grand cherokee
the airbag light coming on is telling you that a problem exists in the airbag system. you need it get it to a dealer or reputable garage and have the system checked. with the airbag system malfunctioning it is possible the airbag wont properly deploy in an accident or may deploy without warning
Jeep Cherokee Laredo-won't start unless you give it gas
could be something as simple as a clogged fuel filter or the pump is not putting out the needed psi of fuel to the line. If it is running rough when you hold your foot down on the pedal then check to see if the line is clogged or water in it. There are a few places to start. I do believe its all electronically controlled so you cannot adjust the cable might look at the control module on the injection unit.

All the computers in the car talk on a CAN Bus. One of the computers might be interfering with the others.

It happened to me, I had a bad ground. I grounded the computer directly to the battery and magically everything worked. I then had to go through the wiring to figure out which ground. In my case the one under the center console was loose.
There is a connector under the dash that is more like a plug (it might look like a unused diagnostic port), if you pull the cap off, you will separate all the computers. With an oscilliscope or really good volt meter you can probe which of those pins is putting out noise. The connector is the CAN bus connector.
If you have a good diagnostic tool, one that can talk to the other computers, not just pull codes from the engine computer, you can, with a wiring diagram, add one at a time until you find the culprit.
