1999 cougar voltage regulator needs checked how do I do this
Put a multimeter on dc. Place the probes on the battery terminals. You should see between 13.2 and 14.8 volts with the engine running. Do this at idle and while you rev the engine too be sure the voltage regulator is not under or over charging the battery
IGNITION COIL BURNS UP IN MY 1997 CHEVEY SILVERADO
a jeep Silverado? is this a motor swap? franken jeep. (blue box says Cherokee)_
just one? coil?
or 2?
a key question. that.....
any coil at anytime can burn up. this is called old age or entropy.
nothing lasts for ever and for sure in a red hot engine bay.
if a 2nd one burns up,that means the dwell is too high
dwell is coil charge time.
with EFI car,s this is closely controlled at all times !!!
but there is this part called and ignitor. that can short (replaced points from IN-THE-DAY)
if the ignitor shorts, the coil primary will burn up. fast. key on.
to get help, post what engine you have, chev offers many as an option
and they all work differently (diff, EFI)
Brakes not working
The front portion of the reservoir has fluid used for the front brakes which provide the majority of the vehicles stopping power. There is a valve that is supposed to shift to isolate the front and rear brakes when this occurs but it doesn't always work as designed. You have lost all the fluid in the front brake system. This is due one of these possible issues:
Broken brake line
Broken brake hose from line to caliper
Leaking caliper seal
You need to find and repair the leak, refill and bleed the front brake system to get the vehicle back in service. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN ITS CURRENT STATE!!!
Transmission
get the FSM and read it.
or , go to any transmission major parts house.
and get the book or CD on your exact transmission
btw, this is the first post for this in 10,000 posts..
and the most hard to answer.
only about 1 in 300 million drivers ever do this....
