Put the battery onto a battery charger. It sounds like the cold cranking amps capacity of your battery is low. Starting a car that is cold and sat, is ******* the battery. The next cranking is easier and the oil has been moved and things are now lubricated. That car should be on its third battery for a 2003, and I bet it is the second. You are looking at a new battery every 5 to 7 years depending on make and how it was looked after.

You can also make sure that the battery terminals and clamps are clean and not oxidised. Make sure you keep power to the system, with using a battery charger or use a length of wire wrapped around the battery terminal and the battery lead, otherwise you will have to re-pair the chips in the antitheft system.

Not sure if there are carbs on car or if it is direct injection. If carbs spray into float chamber(s) if injction I think you will have to spray into cylinders via holes for spark plugs. Pleae note have never used starter fluid on direc t injection my self so I am really not sure if that will work. I assume that you have checked that fuel is getting to engine. Hope this helps.

The smell is probably related to the catalic converter when a cat goes bad it creates a smell similar to rotten eggs. You might need to replace the catalic converter. This will improve gas mileage and performance. The hot air blowing from the AC is probably a low charge on the Freon.

Is it a manual transmission or an automatic? If it's a manual (clutch pedal), then you've got a problem for the shop. If an automatic, it should shift into a forward gear or reverse whenever you depress the brake.

The German manufacturers came up with a great new idea that many others have now copied and that is to eliminate the under bonnet filler tube and dip stick. Some of the German manufacturers have decided to eliminate engine oil dip sticks as well. These people are just so innovative.

Thus you have to use the correct filling procedure as laid down by the manufacturer which involves filling the auto transmission from under the vehicle by removing the filler plug on the side of the auto unit and pumping in the fluid. It used to be so much easier.
Obviously this is best done on a lift/hoist and the vehicle must be level.

Here is some info on the Audi A6 auto trans you may find of use..................

I would check the thermostat first. Remove the thermostat and place it in a pan of water on the stove. Place a thermometer in the water with the thermostat and slowly increase the temperature until you have reached 194 degrees Fahrenheit or 90 degrees Celsius. Watch closely for the thermostat to open slightly. If it opens then the thermostat is good. If it does not open, replace it. Try that first and see what you come up with.
