Replacing the belt tensioner and serpentine belt
You either have the wrong belt, or it's not on correctly. Make sure all of the pulleys are secure. (Like the power steering pump support bracket isn't loose) The diagram for the belt is usually under the hood.

1999 mercury mystique check engine light
Why my Check Engine light comes on?
The engine computer or PCM/ECM
All modern vehicles have a computer or the ECM (Electronic Control Module) that controls the operation of the vehicle powertrain (the engine and transmission). The main purpose of this is to keep the engine running at top efficiency with the lowest possible emissions. With constantly growing demands for better fuel economy and new strictest emission regulations it's not very easy to achieve. The engine parameters need to be constantly and precisely adjusted according to various conditions such as speed, load, engine temperature, gasoline quality, ambient air temperature, road conditions, etc. That's why today's cars have much more electronics than in early days - there is a large number of various sensors and other electronic devices that help the vehicle computer or ECM to precisely control the engine and transmission operation and monitor emissions.
The vehicle computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and your car needs to be looked at. To properly diagnose what is wrong, you need to take your car to a mechanic or a dealer. The technician at the dealership or a garage will then hook up the scanner to the car computer and retrieve the stored trouble code(s). Then he (she) will look it up in the service manual provided by a car manufacturer. The service manual contains the list of possible codes (about few hundreds) and describes what each code means and what needs to be tested. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, what engine parameter is out of normal range. The technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint a defective part.
99 mystique making weird noise when i turn on the
chances are there is a bad bearing, inside the air conditioner compressor. where the belt goes there is a centrifugal clutch, listen close to there and if's from there, you need a new compressor.
Trying to get diagram to change a timing belt for
Ford TSB 99-25-4 provides the following corrected information:
To achieve proper timing belt tension on this engine, Ford says the camshaft sprocket bolts should be loosened enough to permit the sprockets to turn freely on the camshafts. Once this has been done, rotate the crankshaft clockwise so cylinder No. 1 is at top dead center. Then, install the camshaft alignment tool in the camshaft slots to hold the cams in place.
- Back out the tensioner bolt four full turns and position the tensioner so the locating tab is at approximately the 4 o'clock position. Line up the hex key slot in the tensioner-adjusting washer with the pointer that is located behind the pulley.
- Working counterclockwise from the crank sprocket, install the timing belt.
- Rotate the tensioner locating tab counterclockwise and insert the locating tab into the slot in the rear timing cover.
- Position the hex key slot in the tensioner-adjusting washer to the 4 o'clock position.p>
- Tighten the attaching bolt enough to seat the tensioner firmly against the rear timing cover, but still allow the tensioner adjusting washer to be rotated using a 6 mm hex key.
- Using the hex key, rotate the adjusting washer counterclockwise until the notch in the pointer is centered over the index line on the locating tab. (The pointer will move in a clockwise direction during adjustment).
- While holding the adjusting washer in position, torque the attaching bolt to 18 lb-ft (25 N.m).
Note: If the pointer does not remain centered over the index line during final tightening, loosen the bolt and repeat the procedure beginning with step 4.
PO420 Catalyst System Efficiency below threshold.
Basically the mechanic will make sure don't need a tune up. or have vacuum issues or leakes in the exhaust before the cat. Then he should check the front 02 sensor to make sure its not getting lazy. If all this passes then you will need a new cat. If the O2 sensor has more than 70,000 miles on it it needs to be replaced anyways so you may just want to do this first and hope the light stays off.. The problem with a lean code is you will wear out the cat real fast if you didnt deal with this and kept driving the car. The lean code could have been vacuum leak or a bad MAF sensor or weak fuel pump.
1999 Mystique keeps missing (chugging) at higher
You should be illuminating the check engine light. If so, rent a scanner, read the codes and pursue to repairs. You should replace the fuel filter and check the air cleaner. The fuel pump may be on it's last legs--check fuel pressure at the fuel rail over the injectors (a tire-valve looking test port). The pressure should be ~45 to 55 PSI with the engine running.
Brakes sensors?
Is he asking if you have anit-lock brake sensors or brake wear sensors?
I may have owners manual for this car. I'll check. If I do, I'll sell it for $5 plus $2 postage.
99 mercury mystide had rear running light broken
If the driver's side tail light is working, it's not a fuse. Use a test light to check for power at the bulb holder. One terminal will be for tail light, the other for brake/turn light. If the is constant power for tail light, replace bulb. If no power, trace wiring from bulb holder to driver's side junction. Probable broken wire between the two tail lights.
Car Overheated - Won't Start
So, all we have to really diagnose the problem is that the car has overheated and it won't start even though there is a good battery in place and plenty of gas. I'm not there in person, so I'd rely on this handy, diagnostic article on this issue of yours, which clearly specifies the probable causes of this overheating; just go down the list to see if they apply to you: lack of radiator maintenance, faulty radiator overall, radiator tubes clogged, faulty fan, faulty water pump belt, faulty thermostat, leaking hoses, faulty exhaust system, or AC / radiator fins are damaged/misaligned. Check the article out for a better explanation:
