I am having a problem removing the distributor on my 1988 mercury tracer. I have removed the adjustment bolt but it won't break free. any ideas?

No, don't beat it up. Does it turn with the adjustment bolt out? Make sure no other retainer bolts holding it. If you can turn it back and forth as it should with adjuster bolt loose or off, just keep pulling while twisting- the O-ring seal on the distributor may be sticky with age.

My dads 88 tracer just outright dies. it has a 1.6 engine. You can usually push the emergency fuel reset button and you are on your way again. what up?

Hi amp draw from pump or bad relay--could be both as failing pump stresses relay.

Removing transmission

Yikes! Well I would drop the sub frame if you're working on the ground. OR you could remove the engine then you have more space to get the transmission. But I gotta ask: why? Why work on it in the first place?

No fuel delivery from the tank to engine

First check the fuel pump fuse and relay and if they are good then check the fuel pressure it should be 28-32 psi with key on and engine off.If its not within these specs then replace the fuel pump.

My 88 Tracer started having

OK, first, I think it may be the alternator. If you charge the battery overnight, the engine should run for about an hour before it discharges again.
I don't think the coolant should affect the wiring.

There may be a fuse panel for the high current fuses in the engine compartment. It should be 30 amp or higher.

Does the generator/alternator/battery light come on when the key is in ON position?

What engine? 1.9L or 1.8L?
VIN Number?
