car will not go out of park
2002 mountaineer is stuck in park - will crank but cannot put in gear
CLICK HERE FOR YOUR OWNERS MANUAL in PDF format.
Check your shift interlock switch on the brake pedal. If it is out of alignment or has failed the shifter will not unlock to enable a gear selection.
Also - a fuse may be blown, or you may have a taillight out.
You can manually unlock it in emergency situations.
Taken from P.181 of the manual......
Brake-shift interlock
This vehicle is equipped with a brake-shift interlock feature that prevents
the gearshift lever from being moved from P (Park) when the ignition is
in the ON position unless brake pedal is depressed.
If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in
the ON position and the brake pedal depressed:
1. Apply the parking brake, turn ignition key to LOCK, then remove the
key.
2. Locate the access cover plate to
the brake-shift interlock override. It
is located on the underside of the
steering column.
3. Rotate the access panel
(counterclockwise) with a flat head
screw driver until it is lined up to
the access hole in the open position.
4. Insert a tool (or screw driver) into the access hole to override the
brake-shift interlock. Apply the brake and shift into Neutral.
5. Return the cover plate (rotate
clockwise) to the closed position.
Start the vehicle.
If it is necessary to use the above procedure to move the gearshift lever,
it is possible that a fuse has blown or the vehicle’s brakelamps are not
operating properly. Refer to Fuses and relays in the Roadside
emergencies chapter.

I have a 2003 Mountaineer AWD. The front end is making a loud noise which gets louder as the vehicle speed increases. However, this is only apparent when driving straight or to the left at all. When I turn the wheel to the right, the noise disappears altogether. The hub bearing was worn out so I replaced the hub assy. only days ago and noticed nothing else wrong in that area.
have youre transfer case checked

my alarm keeps going off during the night
Hello. Alarms are a pain and can cause problems. The best thing to do is disconnect the fuse for the alarm in the fuse panel of the car, then the alarm will not work at all. Also becarefull that it does not cause problems to the car itself. Good Luck.
