2003 Chrysler Voyager - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

I commented yesterday that I had the same problem and had done some tests in an attempt to identify the cause.

I contacted a local mobile mechanic, and when I described the symptoms, explained the tests that I'd carried out, and told him of my theory that the fuel filter might be partially blocked he said, "Yes, I'm sure you're right. I've had to do 14 Voyagers in the last month with the same problem!" Hopeful that he was right, but still a bit sceptical because the car had a service less than a month ago in which the fuel filter was listed as one of the replaced parts, I called him out. He came, removed the old filter, commented that "The old filter is really dirty and doesn't look to have been replaced for at least 25,000 miles!" inserted a new filter and the car has been running perfectly since. There's a marked improvement in the way the engine's running (not really surprisingly!) and this reinforces my belief that most (but not all) garages are only interested in taking your money and not doing the work.

For anyone interested, the process of replacing the filter was relatively straight forward and I think (if I ever have this problem again) I will replace it myself. On my Voyager (2001 RHD UK spec 2.5l TD) The fuel filter is located in the rear fuel pump, situated just forwards of the rear axle, on the driver's side of the fuel tank. The filter is removed by using a spanner of about an inch. Note, once the new filter is inserted it's important to prime the engine well before starting it otherwise it will need to be bled (which is apparently a tricky job on the Voyager!) To prime the engine and get fuel through before starting it, you must turn the key in the ignition so that you hear the pump working (eventually the pump noise should stop), and repeat this several times (we did it about 10 times) before turning the key further to turn the engine over. This process makes sure that there's a constant stream of fuel through the new filter and up to the front where the engine is!

That's all the mechanic did, and it worked! Even my wife's happy (of course all things are relative!)

check the antifreeze and it may be time for a new thermostat but if all else fails the radiator needs flushing

Check wire to transmission it sounds like a ground out when you hit a bump ,

sounds like ya starter is locked up or frozen you can contact chrysler and see if they got a part for it or a local auto shop might be best to go to autozone they can diagnose the starter to see if its working or not

check for water in the harness connections at the transmission

dont try removing the steering wheel as the airbag will cause this to be a problem , adjust the tracking until the wheel is in the position you want , make sure you adjust the track rods equally on each side , this is a little bit of trial and error if your doing it your self ,

If goes to a right,left side tie rod in 1/2 turn.or goes to a left ,right side tie rod in 1/2 turn.

It may need factory programming.

body module is for anti theft mostly,use your key fob to unlock your doors then put your key in and unlock then start

Put a voltmeter across the terminals (main current supply) and check for power. If power get someone to try start and watch the voltage, it shouldn't change, if it drops dramatically you have a cable/joint/fuse/battery problem. If no power, then look for cable/fusable link problems. If it doesn't change and has power, check the solenoid terminal to earth, it should have no power until a start is attempted. If it doesn't have power when a start is attempted check the connectors back to the ignition key (you'll need a wiring diagram.) If you do get power when trying to start remove the starter motor and check it... The solenoid should: 1/ Kick the drive gear forward 2/ close a set of 'power' contacts to drive the starter. If you get a 'click' when installed (1) is usually happening, but it may be there is dirt on the shaft which stops it getting to (2) and therefore it won't kick the engine over... a well placed hammer blow can sometimes prove that, but it's better to just take it off the engine and test it on the bench.

under nearside dash where glovebox is there is a little panel take off panel filter is there just pull down

If u mean bypass as in putting a new wire in, I'd be in plugging the Ecu connector and lambda sensor then running a simple test to make sure u got the right wire , a four wire lambda is 2 heater wires usually the same colour which when on is positive 1 5v Ecu feed and a earth

in the fuse box under hood

Should be on top of the intake near the upper radiator hose.

Leave it off if your in a hotter clime ,refit only in lattitudes where you get cold and snow ,now leave it alone and have a cup of tea and a ciggy then go back to it and you will see it straight away

Usually such fuses are located in the engine bay fuse box located by the battery. not the fuse box located under the dash.
