1996 Chrysler Sebring - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Question edited for clarity. Question moved to 'year make model' category. It located under the timing belt cover and is the central pulley between the two camshaft sprockets. It is not a job for the faint of heart as keeping the cam sprockets locked on place is essential. We keep blowing Fuses. We replaced the relay and still keeps blowing fuses. We don't know if it is a computer or wiring. Not sure where to start. 1996 Chrysler Sebring Convertible JXi

hi it mostly likely that the earth connection from the battery to the chassis is broken loose or corroded

Buy a factory sensor from the dealer . Chrysler vehicles don't like aftermarket parts .

There is a short. older cars have many problems because few people think about ALL of the ground wires in your car.Locate them (to the body and the frame) clean surfaces shiny clean with sand paper even if they "appear ok". Save money and trouble.

The MAP sensor does the same thing as a TPS Throttle position sensor Tells computer at what angel the intake butterfly is at non fixable Replace the part

the engine has been identified as an intereference engine and that means every possibility of valve damage to recover , loosen of the valve adjusters or loosen of the cam shaft caps so that the valves are all closed before you rotate the crankshaft to TDC then reset the cam shaft/s timing marks and do it all back up and hope that no valves are bent

Inside of the fuel tank. Everything is together as a unit...your fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter.

Is it steady or moving back and forth ?

Dirty and sticking EGR, IAC, standard tune up parts, or any of 100 other things. Any codes set? You need diagnostics run by a pro.

Jump start only adds extra speed to starter and provides extra amps, so think bad coil or module. Check for nice blue fat spark at plugs when not jumped and compare when jumped.

Bad battery, cables, connections, coil, module, plugs wires etc.

It doesn't appear so...it doesn't show the same part listing to compare part numbers so I would investigate this further !

probably blew a fuse. You can check it yourself by laying on your back by the fuse panel. Or Take it to local repair shop for repair

Hi Mike, Im glad to help! Mike if you haven't already done so. My first repair on this car would be a battery replacement and check the charging system for proper operation. WHY? Because if the computer and all the relays are not getting the proper 12 volts then the car will not run properly. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Mike.

Is the transmission (automatic assumed) in "P"? If manual, are you holding the clutch pedal down? Do you have functioning headlights? Does the starter TRY to crank the engine but not have enough power to do it? If so, check all your ground connections. Is the battery discharged or fully charged? Put a voltmeter on the battery and have someone try to start the car. Watch the battery voltage when they turn the key - it should NOT drop below 9V. If it does, it's discharged or internally damaged. It may be a pure coincidence - all batteries get to a certain point after which they can't be used any more. You may have just lost one cell in the battery. Or... when you changed the water pump, you may have disturbed something you shouldn't have disturbed.

my transmission would stay in first gear , if this is the problem get a control soleniod sensor from junk yard i did it worked fine. first get a haynes sebring repair book: it is located on top of trans on driver side, you cannot see it, remove accelerator cable and cruise control cable, two screw holding metal pipe on manifold wire fitting on soleniod, then bolt holding it twist and pull gently it will slide out. BUT FIRST, PRACTICE ON A SEBRING AT JUNK YARD. it was easy but it took time a very tight fit, i saved $300 i hope this helps
