Rear Liftgate is broken. I am trying to get it open. How can I get it opened? I cannot gain access to spare tire without opening the liftgate.
either crawl into back or if u have split gate where window opens u have to remove the little plastic access cover {on rear panel}and in the hole push against the rod to open ...once opened u can remove the rear panel and lube and or repair the clips that actuate the lock and release rods

Sometimes but not often the windows would not work.
Now none of the windows work.
The fuse is good and I have ground to the switches.
The ground to the body just inside the door is good.
I don't know what wires should have 12V+ to check.
Still no power windows.
check the relay in the box under the hood and also make sure no one turned the button off to all the window controls on the driverside door panel

I looked at the owners manual for the fuse box under the hood that has the fuse for the Power Windows . According to the manual there isn't a relay in this box for the windows.
Is it somewhere else ?
Check in the Power Distribution box, this is located in the engine compartment, and contains high-current fuses that protect your vehicle.
For POWER WINDOWS, check the position 4, 30AMP (Maxi Fuse) (also Power Moonroof, Power Seat).
This and other details can find in your 2000 Mcercury Mountaineer Owners Manual.
Hope this help (remember comment and rated this).

2000 mercury mountianeer o/d light flashing
this OD light flashing means a fault has has been sensed by the transmission control module in the electronic transmission controls, to see what this fault might be have the transmission tested for electronic fault codes that are stored when this OD light flashes, many times this code will be for a transmission slipping issue, u will not fell this most times, if the transmission has more than 60,000 miles on it have the transmission fluid and filter changed and erase the codes, they may not come back

factory stereo system. Sometimes light comes on but mostly not. Hasn't come on now for months. All else works fine but I can't see the clock or the stations so I can't change anything. I would like to remove it to see if I can fix it as some have said they have but I do not know how to get it out to inspect it.
You need to have special radio removal tools to get the radio to slide out of the dash. They are not very expensive and are available at many aftermarket parts suppliers including AutoZone. Or you can order them online. Click this direct link to toolsource.com's page where you can see (or purchace) the tools:
