A/T fails to down shift?
M/T you didnt down shift.
both cars the engine stalled as you shifted?
bad ISC, it is used for deceleration called the dash pot effect
as you cut the throttle the ECU opens the ISC to stop on the fly

on line forever. we blind here.
When useing 4 wheel drive what gear should you be in
Gear range depends on terrain / conditions.
4low would be used to move slowly, with large amounts of torque developed and transferred to wheels. It is not capable of road speeds without over-revving the engine.
4high is best all around conditions, and necessary for road travel for any speed above a slow run.
95 grand cherooke
park lock out. (this is a feature !!) cant drive over kids deal .
the brake lamps must glow at rear of car.

How do I stop the ticking on the lifter on a 1996 jeep GC 4.0?
When my engine had a LOUD, persistent tick, I made sure that the engine was warmed up, turned it off, drained the oil, chased it with Lucas engine oil treatment (so that I got more dirt out of it), changed the oil filter with a decent one (as I no longer use Fram Extra Guard filters--but have no problem with their Tough Guard filters), refill the crankcase with fresh oil that meets or exceeds the specification on the oil cap, on the oil dipstick, or in the manual to the quantity that's also specified in the manual. Be safe & have fun!
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 auto idles good but will only move with it wide open or just barely any throttle
4.0L
what transmission, mines a 5 speed stick so?????
idles good, well that dont take much.
will only move, car moves?
with what wide open ,the throttle?
well just barely throttle is normal, why say that?
my guess is car has low power, or can not go fast in all gears.
is that it?
if yes, that is transmission slip or a weak engine,
transmission slip is easy RPM goes way high car dont move
weak engine acts like brakes stuck on , low RPM deep right foot.
post all symptoms and win, big time.
Keeps back firing and stalls
You probably have the distributor installed one tooth off. Or if it was doing this before you did all this the timing chain has jumped a tooth. remove the distributor cap, then set the timing mark on top dead center, then have someone watch the rotor and tell you when it moves then check how many degrees it moved. It should not be no more than about 2-3 degrees if more than that you probably need a timing chain and gears. BigD
My 1996 Jeep is quitting at random would it be the
Your car's computer has a function called limp mode. When the computer senses a problem with the engine, like overheating, it reduces the power in the engine so that you can "limp"home, or to a service agent to fix the problem.
150 degrees F (hopefully not degrees C) is not a sign of overheating, so there might be something else like low oil level?
