I have a loud hard knocking noise that seems to be coming from the middle of my truck when I let go of the gas pedal in between 25-30mph and my rpm gage jumps down everytime I let off the gas pedal. D

double posted, now with more facts. back up one. not a clue, now that noise, was added to post. nada. noise needs HANDS ON testing. no body here can do that, only wild guessing. my guess (wild), is a U-joint is horribly bad. guess 2(wild) are you in 2wd? does car have AWD options. is it stuck on 4wd or 4wd lock. i have no idea what options are on this truck.(drive line) id say get it checked, as it sound real dangerous to me.

Rpm gage drops fast when I let off the gas pedal

did you mean too fast ,as all cars do that. moving or parked.??????????? hot engine or cold , or both. well there are many factors governing that. moving A/t tranny or stick....??? up hill or down hills. loads in the car. trailers. A/T fails to down shift? M/T you didnt down shift. both cars the engine stalled as you shifted? bad ISC, it is used for deceleration called the dash pot effect as you cut the throttle the ECU opens the ISC to stop on the fly neck snapping effects, (software that replaced and old part on a CARB) how low did idle go? in shop we see all this and 10x more, in seconds. on line forever. we blind here.

When useing 4 wheel drive what gear should you be in

Gear range depends on terrain / conditions. 4low would be used to move slowly, with large amounts of torque developed and transferred to wheels. It is not capable of road speeds without over-revving the engine. 4high is best all around conditions, and necessary for road travel for any speed above a slow run.

How do I stop the ticking on the lifter on a 1996 jeep GC 4.0?

When my engine had a LOUD, persistent tick, I made sure that the engine was warmed up, turned it off, drained the oil, chased it with Lucas engine oil treatment (so that I got more dirt out of it), changed the oil filter with a decent one (as I no longer use Fram Extra Guard filters--but have no problem with their Tough Guard filters), refill the crankcase with fresh oil that meets or exceeds the specification on the oil cap, on the oil dipstick, or in the manual to the quantity that's also specified in the manual. Be safe & have fun!

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 auto idles good but will only move with it wide open or just barely any throttle

4.0L what transmission, mines a 5 speed stick so????? idles good, well that dont take much. will only move, car moves? with what wide open ,the throttle? well just barely throttle is normal, why say that? my guess is car has low power, or can not go fast in all gears. is that it? if yes, that is transmission slip or a weak engine, transmission slip is easy RPM goes way high car dont move weak engine acts like brakes stuck on , low RPM deep right foot. post all symptoms and win, big time.

Keeps back firing and stalls

You probably have the distributor installed one tooth off. Or if it was doing this before you did all this the timing chain has jumped a tooth. remove the distributor cap, then set the timing mark on top dead center, then have someone watch the rotor and tell you when it moves then check how many degrees it moved. It should not be no more than about 2-3 degrees if more than that you probably need a timing chain and gears. BigD

My 1996 Jeep is quitting at random would it be the

Your car's computer has a function called limp mode. When the computer senses a problem with the engine, like overheating, it reduces the power in the engine so that you can "limp"home, or to a service agent to fix the problem. 150 degrees F (hopefully not degrees C) is not a sign of overheating, so there might be something else like low oil level?

I've got a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee with the 5.2 v8 fuel injected Holley throttle body. My problem is while driving at soft or low acceleration it accelerates fine, but if you hit the throttle hard it

I would check the voltage on the throttle portion sensor with the engine off from idle to wide open throttle. If there are any dead spots, replace the sensor. If the tps checks out, you should check fuel pressure. If you have good fuel pressure, you may want to make sure there isn't a lot of slack in your timing chain. I don't believe you mentioned the mileage of your vehicle. Best of luck.
