What does it take to put 4.0 in jeep tj, take out 2.5

you will need all new harness and EFI, move the engine with the FULL EFI system and it can work the primary wiring will be worse pain, ASD and all that. mech, (mounts, and tranny) why not join a jeep forum a real one. and post to the swaps sections or better , read there swaps sections first. me, i sell it and get 4L. , save 100hr labor. here is the parts cat http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service see it>, no look up the tranny part numbers, (a/t or m/t?) or clutch or bell housings.. and mounts, they are all there. google jeep forum engine swap here ill do that for you...... https://www.google.com/webhp#q=jeep+forum+engine+swap bingo?

My temp gauge quit working and i replaced sender and gauge. it's got to be a short. but where to start maybe someone else has had the same problem

95 yj (quite means, hot , low or mid?,) just a clue.? 4.0L? all fuses good,? the FSM covers this , here is the outline (all cars this era) 1: IR pyro gun pointed to thermotat housing near 180f 170f min. 2: ok engine really IS hot. then we ground the gauge feed, meter, pegs, meter good , I use a light bulb from ground to guage to limit current (im nice to my meters) 3: i then find my temp sender, the one with 1 pin. pull the connector with a hot engine this is a passive NTC thermistor and is not the ECT with 2 pins. its just for the gauge. the 91 sender is different from a 95 so dont mix years,!! 92-95 are matched. hot engine, 180F or more... pull off the single wire. to the sender. connect DMM set to OHMS (yes, omega symbol i s that) select 200 or 2000 range, id use 2000, , if an auto ranging meter let it range and read the LCD markers, it tells you what range it landed red to pin, the black to engine block. (rear top sender on 4.0L) its not the sender bad, all in 5min work. no guessing at all so if its good, the wires are bad. twinxed them. the only hard part is finding good ohms charts that match your year. all else is caveman simple 1 wire, gauge and sender. i see many folks online mixing wrong clusters in jeeps and wondering why the right sender dont work. so did you cluster temp ever work right, this year, this decade? ohms law , never lies, but wrong parts do.... every time. the sender is NTC, higher ohms cold, , lower hot ! i could not FIND the sender spec. at all. 1million hits for ETC, zero for gauge. my guess is sender will read high ohms cold , 1000 or more. more cold more ohms... (resistance) then drop in ohms as engine warms might drop to as low a 80 ohms. but will drop , gauge wire (it only has 1) disconnected.

Loss of power

stock car YJ ? , or all hacked up. (old cars get hacked) 2.5 or 4.0 liter engine? still have a real jeep alternator not upgraded? loss of electrical power (first rule, we never need to guess.!!!) not with a voltmeter. (tool that costs $20 ) alternator good (by what means, autozoned?) ( we can find out one car) but low on gauge. what gauge in dash voltmeter.? sure... i think you car has no charge lamp only the dash VM. own an volt meter? a DMM? hand volt meter? 1: if the alternator charge lamp is stuck on driving. 2: is battery voltage at 13.3 to 15vdc with engine at 800 RPM idling alternator belt not slipping, for sure.....??? if the battery voltage is near 12.5v and falling running that is an Alternator system failure, note i said, system. !!! this is first. if we get to here. we can find the real cause. test 3: is the charge lamp on keyon, and goes out running? make sure the big fuse for the alternator in the engine bay fuse box is not blown, 50amp? I have no 95 FSM and my online source sucks for 95 Alternator dead: (alt good) 1: belt slipping . engine at 300rpm, nah. 2: fuse blown, the big one. (engine bay fuse box) 3: ;wrong alternator, there are many, most others will fail, even good ones....... 4: alternator ground bad. (end to end, to battery minus) 5: bad wiring to same. bad connections, any to battery or alt. 6: some jeeps the PCM has the field regulator, see link below. ECU pin 20 , is field pin, it is on 95, 4.0L (engine not stated) is the CEL lamp on, and throwing code 41 DTC?, alt, field errors? the alt has 4 pins, battery, field, ground and voltage sense. The reg is in the PCM. and if bad is a bad $3 transistor.. see same form for fix for that issue.. i think this is same as your. 1996 is big change year. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/1993-wrangler-pcm-ecu-ecm-pin-out-diagram-1170004/ you can test the alt, PCM wire pulled !, by full fielding the alt. grounding the field term, no wires on field pin of alt. see FSM for details on that. The PCM modulates the field pin to control charge at all times.

It keep burning the fuse from the heater on wrangler 95

There is a dead short in the circuit. Somewhere the power wire has a bare spot in the insulation and it is rubbing on the body, shorting out. You'll have to trace it back from the heater until you find it.
