Jeep charokee will not start when it is hot, why?
This can be due to a faulty Crankshaft position sensor, it is a common failure in the year. It is located in the bell housing and is accessed from under the truck on the side above the starter.

1988 jeep won't start
Not sure if I read your post right, but you have to have a hot wire to the ignition switch from the battery, independent of anything else on the car, before the switch will work. The CPS is a common problem on the jeeps, though. If bad, you may not get a coil signal.

88 Jeep Cherokee 4 Wheel Drive Problem
It sounds like the vacuum acuater is cracked or broken internaly. Recomend replacing the acuater and replacing all vacuum hoses at the same time. There is also a small relay switch under the hood under the radiator tank that may also require replacing.

Okay, the first thing to check is to turn on the signal on one side and see if the outside signal light comes on. if the light comes on then try replacing the flasher. Also see if your 4way flashers work or if they are also out. if they are out then check your fuse first. If the fuses are good then try the flasher, if the flasher does not solve the problem then you may need to replace the turn signal switch. I have worked on a few of these and most of the time it was a flasher or the turn signal switch. good day.

Engine overheating, from 180 -
You should replace the thermostat first as it may be sticking. If no difference then change the radiator cap as it may not be opening to allow coolant to flow to the overflow reservoir. Also make sure there is nothing blocking the overflow tube or tube connections.

Thermostat
There are two options for engines; a four cylinder 2.5L and a V6 4.0L You haven't told me which one is in the Jeep so I'll send them both...photos are very much the same..Disconnect the negative battery cable. If necessary, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.Remove the attaching bolts and lift the housing from the engine...Remove the thermostat and gasket. To install: Clean all gasket surfaces thoroughly.Place the thermostat in the housing with the spring inside the engine.Install a new gasket with a small amount of sealing compound applied to both sides.Install the water outlet and tighten the mounting bolts to 200 inch lbs. (23 Nm) on V-8 engines and 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) on non-8 cylinder engines.Install the upper radiator hose to the housing and tighten the hose clamp.Connect the coolant temperature sensor connector to the housing.Refill the cooling system.#1

Well, I would try to check the spark to make sure the ignition system is providing spark to the spark plugs. Then, I would check fuel pressure, to make sure that the injectors are getting enough pressure to provide gas to the cylinders, using a fuel pressure gauge on the rail.
