Check the ground connections (black wires) attached to the car's sheet metal under the hood and near the main computer (wherever it is located). Bad ground connections (loose, rusty, etc.) can sometimes cause problems like these.
If that doesn't work, use a voltmeter to determine if power is being supplied to the sensors when the ignition is turned on.
--If yes, it's either a problem with the wiring/connections from the sensors back to the main computer, or a problem with the computer itself (somewhat unlikely).
--If no, either buy a repair manual for your specific year/model or visit a model-specific forum and see if you can find a wiring diagram. That should tell you where the power to the sensors is supposed to be coming from -- the computer or another source. Tracing those wires/connections will hopefully identify the problem.

You will want to install both the lower hose and the smaller heater hose to the tube before inserting it back into the water pump housing. Make sure that the new o-ring is lubed up and start by betting the rear part of the o-ring started first. Then you can use a small screw driver to help the edge of the o-ring into the housing while applying pressure on the tube itself. It should eventually just pop in. It is a major pain in the rear, and would help if you could grow another arm out of your head, but it is doable.

I would start at the battery terminals. Loosen them and move them around to see if you get any lights, Even if the cables are tight they can still lose connection at times.

Beyond that you could follow the negative cable and see if it is tightly connected to the body of the car. Maybe flex the cables to see if there is any corrosion under the rubber coating.

If you have a volt meter test the ends of the battery cables (if possible) to at least verify you are getting power to the fuse box, or solenoid.

OK... brains are expensive. It sounds like your PT STARTS OK, but keeps your TRANSMISSION locked.

Many transmissions have a 'lock' that is coupled to the car BRAKES. So the transmission may not allow SHIFTING if the BRAKE SWITCH is not sensed as 'brakes applied'.

APPLIED BRAKES = OK TO START/SHIFT. So it's possible a defective switch is your problem?

And there is this: "You Probably have a 604 41 TE auto trans (this is a four speed automatic trans)and if this is the case. Then you need to have the input and the output turbine sensor's replaced,(aka speed sensor) same thing different name. These sensors are cheap and have a high failure rate due to high temps the trans produces."

As an L1 ASE Master technician, this sort of fuel consumption should be setting an engine code or codes. What I believe to be happening is that the fuel trims are being falsely skewed down to which the vehicles response would be increase duty cycle of fuel injectors to attempt to maintain a perfect stochiometric (14.7/1 air fuel) ratio. I need to know if the vehicle has any check engine codes. Have them check even if the malfunction indicator lamp is NOT on. They can be burnt out..

Go to an Autozone or O'rilies and have the codes pulled. Their scanners are archaic and their "counter" people were just working at Mc'Donalds last week, and most of them have no idea about a car and would already be lost at what I have told you, but they CAN plug their handheld scanner into the car and push a button. Let me know what you find.

Check the pressure on the low side. You may need to charge the system, as the low pressure switch may be cycling. You can also try bypassing the switch by removing the connector and jumping the terminals with a paperclip.

Rather then guessing as to what the problem is , test . Is there a security light lit on the instrument cluster ? Does the vehicle have fuel pressure , spark ? Does the check engine light come on with the key in run position ?
