You can't bypass the chip. You'll have to get a key from the dealer.

I recently had a similar problem with the "liftgate ajar" light lighting randomly on my 2001 PT Cruiser. It was even occurring AFTER I had disconnected the "ajar sensor" on the liftgate. Finally found that 5 wires were broken, one of them the liftgate ajar sensor wire, in the wire bundle that leaves the top of the liftgate and goes into the chassis. I suspect that those broken wires would randomly trigger. Inline spliced the wires and resealed the bundle. Everything looks good for now, although time will tell.

Catalic converter damaged

if the helicoil was installed correctly there should be no probs when done correct the coil replaces the origional thread and stays put should not come out when you remove the plug.

check your fuses look for ignition fuse make sure it's not blowed

What do you mean by seams to fire but won't Start ? When you turn the key to start what happens ? Does the starter spin the engine ? If so this would be a engine cranks , now if it does spin the engine an the engine doesn't start an run this is call an cranks no start condition .Now on the other hand if the starter doesn't spin the engine when you turn the key to start ,then this is referred to as a no crank - no start . There are very different diagnostic steps for each of these conditions . Your best bet is to have your vehicle diagnosed by a qualified technician .

ok if you want to check the relays and modules, locate the boxx where they are located, use the legend to figure out which is which under there, and pull two identical relays and switch them, if what you want to come on then work, if it didnt before, then thats the problem, if not, then your problems are elsewhere, I'm assuming your cooling fans on the front for the radiator and a/c aren't coming on? but while driving its not heating up because air is forced from motion? lets just hope its the relay or one of the big fuses in the main power block, those are cheap fixes, the other problem could cost you a couple hundred bucks

Transmission

Chances are its in limp mode which is the computer's way of letting you drive it to a repair shop or back home. Code 1684 just means the computer has lost battery power at some point in time. That won't tell you what the problem is now. So a transmission shop may be your best option.

There are two types of PT Cruisers, those that the multi-function switch (the one on your steering wheel that controls turn signals/foglights) HAS failed and those that it WILL fail. Yours probably has failed and your fog lights come on whenever they feel like it, even if the car is parked with no key in the ignition, thus your need for a new battery. You can find the replacement part on Amazon (Amazon com Shee Mar SM147 Turn Signal Fog Lamp Wiper Dimmer Multifunction... ) or have your mechanic replace it.

sounds like an ignition switch or relay problem. If you can jump or test the relay start from there.
