What and where can I find a common fault causing suddenly the remote key lock, horn, signal lights and front lights to stop working

You may have a wiring harness problem there, Kjell. Do the door locks work from each individual door? Many vehicles have two fuse boxes - one under the hood and another inside the car somewhere - typically on one side or the other of the dash. Consult your manual. If you don't have one, get one. you need it now, and you will inevitably need it later.

Audi a6 broken timing chain

Any specularion on amount of damage is pointless, you need ro take the head off and inspect pisons and valves. The valves may appear ok but if contact has been made with a piston, you will know this by obseving pitting on the top of the piston where the valve has hit, will probably mean bent valves. There is a second point, I do not know if this is a safe or an interference engine. If it is a safe engine the valves will not overlap with the pistons at any point, they will not occupy the same space at any point in the combustion cycle so there will be no damage in this eventuality. Safe engines are, however, few. I might obtain a used head from a breaker is there is too much valve damage.

1999 audi a6 2.8 . The transmission doesnt shift . Its like it's in neutral all shifter is positions. Grinding when in park.Is this a fixable problem or do I need a new transmission?

before considering a transmission there are some simple and cheap things to do first run the fault codes to find faulty servo/ solenoids pressure test the transmission to find internal faults change oil and clean the filter adjust bands and clutch packs while the pan is off check replace park pawl if you do some or all of these suggestions then you will get a good idea of the condition of the transmission so as to make an informed decision remember the more quotes you get the better and only deal with an accredited transmission shop that offers a long warranty for the replacement box or work done.

I replaced the alternator on my 1999 Audi A6 with 2.8 engine. Now the check engine light is on. Was not on prior to the repairn. How do I correct?

Instructions on How to Turn Off The Check Engine Light: Step 1. If not using a scan tool, locate your vehicle's battery. Disconnect the 12v positive cable (red wire) from battery terminal (+). Leave it disconnect for 5 minutes. While the battery is disconnected, cycle the ignition switch to ON position 3 times. If using a scan tool to turn off the check engine light, follow manufacturers directions. You will need to find your vehicle's OBD II Data Link Connecter (DLC) and connect your scan tool to the DLC, then follow the steps indicated on your scan tool or scan tool manual. Step 2. Insure ignition switch is OFF. Reconnect the battery 12v positive cable (red wire) to battery terminal (+). Step 3. Cycle ignition switch to ON position and wait 1 minute, then start your vehicle. Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon Light should be reset and turned OFF. Step 4. Drive your vehicle for one week under normal driving conditions. During this period the emissions computer is gathering data and re-learning your vehicle's emissions components and systems. The emissions computer OBDII (on-board diagnostics) system must complete at least one drive cycle (in some cases two or three). A drive cycle is a sequence of internal tests which the emissions computer runs while your vehicle is being driven. This insures all emissions systems are functioning properly. Proper "readiness flags" are set as the computer completes it's cycles. Test cycles are unique to a vehicle. Certain cycles run under very strict parameters, and may require extended driving time to trigger on. Cycle data and readiness flag information is available through your dealership's service department. The data vary widely.
