Hard to say, unless I have my hands on it. But I would say you have a ground problem. Check the grounds from the battery to the body and engine. Corroded/broken cables. This is common with power amps.

Check the ECM relay. Nissan has a recall for that relay, for that year. You can swith the relay with your defogger relay which should be next to it. If it is the Brake light, it is a 3157 bulb.

Although I have never had that specific problem with our 2005 Xterra. The first thing that comes to mind is a fuel delivery problem. Hope this helps.

If it is not opening from the inside, open it from the outside and check to see if the child safety lock is engaged. Disengage this and it should be fine. If it is not opening from the outside then the clip that secures the operating rod may have detached or broken. That will usually involve removing the door card.
