Will go in to 4wheel low range
On Ford trucks, you have to be at a stop with foot on break and vehicle in neutral to go into low 4...same for taking it out of 4 wheel low...
Runs for a short time and stops wat for 5mins. and strates up runs and stops
Sounds like it is starving for fuel or air. Let's check it out remove air cleaner when was it changed last? Check it is it dirty? Change it now try starting the car again. Did it run for a longer time? If so all it needed was an air filter. If it sills stalls Start it and let it run and when its about to cut off I want you to spray it with starting fluid and try to keep it running. If this keeps it from stalling you need a new gas filter. So change it and start your car it should run now. My advice to you is keep your car tuned up and change all filters.
If you still have an issue after all this we have to look else where. Let me know how you make out.

Refresh my memory, What have you done to the car beside replacing fuel filter? Do you have a fully charged battery? Are you getting spark to all cylinders? Are you getting fuel? I can help you if you tell me what is wrong. Don't assume it's the fuel pump cause there is so much in between but we can see if your Fuel Pump is working. Open your gas tank and have someone turn the car on but without starting it. You should hear a hum for about 2 to 3 seconds.
This means your pump is working. Now you need to find out what is your fuel pressure? A good number is between 65Lbs. and 40 lbs.
Let me know how you make out I'll be on line all day today.
Fuel pump fuse
Spray starting fluid in your air intake` and see if it starts. If it does and dies out its your fuel pump. If not check Fuse and relay also change gas filter. To be sure use a fuel pump gauge the pressure should be around45 to 65 Lbs.
Stuck 2nd gear
make sure all linkage levers underneath are in their neutral position
Transmission
I am guessing an automatic. Drain the tranny and clean the governor. Replace and refil the fluid. Inexpensive if you reuse the fluid and not too time consuming.
93 Ford Ranger Ignition Cylinder
Hi..
On 1993 Ford ranger to remove the ignition lock cylinder switch
You need to remove the Steering wheel.
Remove trim shrounds.
Set ignition switch to Run position.
If your vehicle is A/T trans. put the selector lever in Park.
You will see retaining pin. Push retaining pin inward and pull out the lock cylinder.
Unplug wire from lock cylinder.
To install reverse remove procedure.
NOTE'' If you don't have the key or the cylinder is locked.
Instead of push the retaining pin you will need to Drill with a
1/8 in ( 3.17mm) Bit to drill out the retaining pin.
Be careful DO NOT drill more than 1/2 in deep.
After you need a chisel to break away the cylinder cap.
You need a 3/8in (9.52mm) bit to Drill in center of the cylinder.
Drill aprox. 1 3/4 in( 44mm) Deep.
REmove metal shavings. And remove the cylinder.
Clean and lubricate the gear inside. and install the new cylinder.
OK............I hope this information work for you.
Thank's for use fixya.
Starter motor will not engage
I am taking this as the starter not turning. You have safety switches on the brake pedal lever or clutch pedal lever. Sometimes the signal loss will even prevent the brakelights from working.
The drivers feet can hit and dislodge the safety switch or even break it. This prevents the power from reaching the starter solenoid. Check to see if you have brakelights.
Lights
you must visit a mechanic or try to exchange it by yourself
My 93 ford ranger 5
I would start by checking the oil level in transmission.Sticking in a gear usually means internal parts damage. This is usually caused by low oil because of plugs on the shifter cap leaking. There is nothing you can adjust or repair without removing and diassembling transmission.
