Do you have a tensioner (looks like this). The 1.9 engine does, couldn't find a listing for the 1,8. If yours has one, put a socket on bolt @ center of black pulley in photo, use a breaker bar to move tensioner to allow easy belt install. Let me know if you have the tensioner on your model. -->

the radiator is right up front in the engine compartment. the fan should be sticking out of the engine right behind it.

doesnt have a carb ,so it it idleing high or too low ??

maybe your fuse is bad?

the motor itself may be failing. disconnect the harness from the motor and run a voltage test at the terminal. if you get a consistant 12v at the terminal after turning the switch on and off several times then the motor is failing.

Scrapyard i would imagine but its not old that a new one from a ford dealer wouldnt be available ,so instead of browsing the internet walk to the dealer with the chassis number and iam sure they will oblige ,Scrapped one of these last year owing to problem with a corroded chassis number ,imported UK reg vehicle and put on spanish plates but teh chassis number on the floor had the last number corroded away so it failed the inspection .The effort of getting it re stamped was more than the car was worth as it was a rust box with duff canvas roof

This is often caused by hard engine mounts and a dirty idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Clean the intake following these instructions, that should improve the idle issue.Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes.
