Can I remove the cluster from going up and behind or do I need to figure out how to remove the dash?
You have to remove the dash but it is VERY simple to do.
Remove the fuseblock cover on the end of the dash on the passenger's side.
Once removed, remove the screw holding on the end of the dash.
Now, next to the glove box, to the right, remove the one screw on the bottom. Then remove this panel by pulling it out (it will now be held on by two clips at the top.)
Now, looking at the temperature control cover, remove the two screws from the bottom of this. Pull it off. It also is held on by two clips.
Now, below the steering wheel, remove the one screw from this panel (on the right). On the left there is a "plug" holding it in place, Pop out this plug. I think there are a couple of clips now holding this on at the top.
Now that you have all of that pulled out, pop the dash out. At worse, it is held in with clips.
Now that you have this out, there are four screws holding in the instrument panel. Take out these four screws. You will find one electrical cable connected to the cluster. Pop that off of the cluster and you now have the entire instrument cluster in your hands.
I've had to take mine out to figure out why my gear indicator/odomiter would not illuminate (Buick told me it was a light). I can see where this encased LED has a short (black mark). It is soldered onto the board. Looks like I have to purchase a repaired board.

What is the best wy to replace the bulg for the odometer/gear selector light?
I had this same problem and I removed the long plastic dash piece that goes from door to door (after removing other pieces which hold that one in place) and then tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position. turn the key and put the car in gear 1 then shut the car off -this enables you to remove the instrument cluster, which is held in by 4 screws. Unclip the back of the instrument cluster and remove the circuit board. On the board to the right of the speedometer are 4 resistors which look like tiny black cylinders -these need to be replaced (if they haven't already fallen off the circuit board). I was missing two and I just touched the other two with my finger and they fell off. I soldered onto the board 150 ohm, 1/8 watt resistors ($1.99 for a packof 5 at Radio Shack). This entire process took me about 30 minutes. I put everything back together in the reverse order I took it apart and my instrument cluster, odometer and gear-shift indicator works fine.

My 2001 Buick Century Custom has had a ticking noise for quite a while coming from the front of the car - engine? 100k miles
- it ticks when the car starts (in park)
- it ticks when the car is in motion and as the car accelerates so does the rate of ticking. I can hear it up until 30 mph, after that I think the sound of the speed drowns out the sound of the ticking.
- some days the ticking is louder and some days it's softer
In your opinion, if the ticking problem is expensive to fix, will the car be drivable for a number of years if I don't fix it - or is the problem too severe to overlook?

Okay, lets hope it is something simple. Remove the underhood light bulb. At night, in the dark, start the engine and look under the hood. You may be able to see sparks jumping. This would be bad wires. If you can see where the spark plugs go and one has a spark jumping it is just one bad sparkplug. Turn off car-replace underhood bulb.
If you see no sparks then it is most likely the valve train. If you have adjustable lifters they need someone to tighten them up to specifications. If they are not adjustable you may need to replace worn parts.
Make sure you keep fresh and plenty of oil in the engine. It can not repair worn parts but if the oil is low or dirty you will have bigger problems.

vehicle has the dual control A/C system - 3.1L engine - recently the A/C has been blowing ice cold air on the driver side and warm/hot air on the passenger side (makes no difference if the dual control is ON or OFF)
Tried disconnecting battery to reset A/C system - no change
Checked all fuses in both (interior and under hood) boxes - none blown
Have tried changing settings from AUTO to all different manual combos with dual controls in both positions - no change
It sounds like a actuator is bad or not getting proper vacuum to open or close on demand.

I have a 2001 Buick Century. The Service Vehicle Soon, ABS, and Trac Off lights remain on even when car is in motion what do I need to do to resolve this?
I just put in new fron pads in my 2000 buick century and the track off and the anti lock brake light and the service engine soon stays on

should have two lights check engine and service engine soon.check engine means there is a malfunction.service soon is reprogrammable,when you change you oil. check you owners manual for reset.
