well, it's not a fix, but it will get you where you are going in your truck...  since it's a diesel the only electrical things you should have are a fuel pump and a fuel distributor.  IF your truck has mechanical injection you should be able to run your fuel pump off of a new circuit to a switch on your dash.  I know that's pretty ghetto, but there ya go.  Now if it is electronic fuel distribution with camshaft sensors and the like then you will need to check that whole wiring harness.  sorry, no easy fix there.  I hope for your sake that it's mechanical injection...

Fuel pump and injectors are plugged. Any time a car sets with gas in it the gas separates and will varnish the fuel pump and injectors and possibly cause a fire just like a Vette I had to work on had the same problem. That means new fuel pump and filter and possibly injectors.

check your battery terminals are clean and tight check all connections. charge battery to see if it may not be charging.Check your fuses possibly blown fuses. check power wire from battery to starter is tight clean. check negative from battery to engine make sure it is clean and tight on engine or where ever it may be run to such as chassis.

check your source power make sure power is flowing to your coil check all fuses and breakers

gas engine? have you tried a tune-up? Check your ignition coil for proper specs. also, check your dist. cap and rotor for wear or cracks. Maybe the spark plug wires are old and need replaced?" All these things can be checked for little or no cost. Also might have something to do with your carburetor (stuck needle valve or float, or choke not operating properly). A thourough tune-up will address all those possibilities.

Go to faxonautoliterature. They carry a Bentley service manual ($29) for your pickup. The Bentley manual is as close as you can get to a factory service manual, they make the service manuals for VW. You may also want to look at Alldatadiy for supplemental info. You can sign up for 1 year for about $30. I've used both and had good luck figuring out what I needed. Get the Bentley first and then use alldata for backup. You may also want to look at signing up with vwvortexforum. No cost and they have vehicle specific forums for help.

test the battery and check that you have clean, solid connections. if battery and connections are good....you need a starter.

I would sew it up or take it to an auto upholstery shop.

is the clutch cable broke or out of adjustment

12 yrs for a injector too old. really need to replace. the nozzle gives unacceptable spray pattern. that's why not get the proper performance of the engine.
