Check engine light

the only way you can retrieve these codes is with a code reader. it's cheaper than a scan tool. problem with these is it only reads the codes and the booklet tells you what the code means but it can't clear the code and it can't change the parameters to keep the codes from coming back. do me a favor and rate this ...thanks

I HAVE A 2002 PONTIAC MONTANA NOW I WAS TOLD TO TRY A COIL PACK SINCE I HAVE A MIS FIRE IN THE 6TH CYLINDER BUT WOULD THAT STOP THE VAN FROM OVERHEATING AND SMOKING CAUSE MY METER GOES ALL THE WAY UP

sounds like you either have a bad fan motor or else the thermostat is sticking. I assume you checked the radiator and it is filled with antifreeze.

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

My 2002 Pontiac Montana out of no where started to overheat and smoke from under the hood and the back it doesn't have a bad smell and all fans work so do my heat and my air so what can the problem po

First I'd check your water levels and top up if required. Then check for leaks. If all is good so far I'd look at your water pump to make sure water is circulating. So check the belts for the correct tension and check the pump for any leaks coming from it. Leaks can be a sign of a worn pump. Check the thermostat next to see if it opens at the correct temperature or remove it altogether. Hope this helps. Just don't drive to much on an overheating car as the can warp the cylinder head which is a much more expensive issue to put right.

You need to bleed the air from the cooling system. The bleeder valve is located just behind the water pump housing. It is a small hex head (7MM) screwed into the coolant bypass tube. Pour coolant into radiator with the valve opened until coolant comes out of the valve. The cooling fans will not come on until the temperature reaches 225 degrees.

My 2006 cooling fans keep running constantly after replacing 1 2 3relays and sensor and fueses

You have to make sure you have the right relays and also the coolant sensor that runs the fans might be grounded. You would have to check with a ohm meter or a conduit tester, good luck.
