Did you have the charging system diagnosed or did you just guess at it being the alternator . The charging system is computer controlled . The starter isn't working because low power , battery dead . Is there B+ voltage at the wire on the back of the alternator .B+ voltage at pin 3 at the connector pluged into the alternator .
Charge the battery use a volt meter an test for B+ voltage at the places i mention . No check engine light ? DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .

Sounds like your FANS aren't working correctly or you are low on coolant,or dirt in radiator or air blockage in the fins. You DO have at least a 50% antifreeze solution in there,right? don-ohio

Try cleaning the fuel injectors by adding 1 container of fuel injection. cleaner to 10 gallons of gas and repeating at next fill up.

A/C compressor going bad ,maybe ! Had 03 focus same problem ,without the A/C on the car ran great . When turning on the A/C the PCM - engine computer is suppose to raise the vehicle idle so it doesn't stall . How does your car run without the A/C on .

My info shows it is located down low on the front side of vehicle. You need to safely raise and support the vehicle. There are safety issues working under a vehicle, safety is your responsibility.

a plastic master cyl !

master cyl is bypassing internally

slave cylinder is inside the gearbox bell housing
if its leaking .....gearbox out

has the battery been tested? sounds like low battery voltage, the diode would not be the cause most likely.

I have an 04 zts and mine used to make a lot of noises like you have and I had a bad motor mount on passenger side.Replaced it and no more rattles like that
