How do I remove the housing the water pump connects to? I think I have a leak there but am unsure what I need to remove to gain access. Thanks.
I am sure the leak is the water pump based on years of Escort work, The ZX2 is equipped with a 2.0L DOHC V-Tech engine. The water pump is on the front (rt side of car) of the engine block, visible with the hood up. NAPA autoparts replacement instructions are to loosen the belt drive pulley from the pump BEFORE removing the serpentine belt. Once the four bolts are loose, take the belt off (good time to replace?) remove bolts and old water pump (four more bolts)- it will be tight, but it comes out- clean gasket area and install new gasket and pump in reverse order. That includes putting the pulley on and hand tightening the bolts, put on the belt, finish tightening the bolts to the pulley.

Need diagram for routing of the serpentine belt on 98 ZX2 Yes having problem threading the belt correctly needa an detailed diagram kind regards
Go on the Dayco belts web site. They make serpentine belts and a pretty good data base of belt diagrams for any vehicle they make a belt for.

p1744 enginge code tcc solenoid circuit range/perf is this a sensor inside the transmission that needs to be replaced or trans rebuild?
DTC P1744 is "TCC - Excessive Slip
Detected During Full TCC Engagement". Which means that the Torque
Converter Clutch (TCC) is disengaged or the EPC pressure is at the
minimum.
The most likely cause is a sticking or
bad TCC solenoid inside the transmission. You can check the connector
at the transmission to make sure it is clean and tight and that it is
not damaged in any way.
If the TCC and wiring is okay, then pressure testing of the transmission will need to be done.
A new torque converter from Ford is about
$265.00 and about 4 hours labor. Throw in a $40.00 TCC solenoid and I
don't think it'll be more than $700.00 at worst.
If the pressure test is good then it's just going to be the $40.00 tcc solenoid and the cost of the transmission oil and filter changed which should be around $150.00
Good luck and hope it's just a loose wire harness to the solenoid which would cost $0.00 and just your time to locate the break in the wire. The other thing to, is to add a transmission fluid additive that would restore the clutch pack in the transmission and Torque Converter.

car has trouble starting, stalls after long drives, also it jerks right before its going to stall. o2 sensors not completing there monitor test either.
The two codes are both about the fuel rail pressure sensor. I would check fuel pressure with a gauge first.
If pressure is low try the fuel filter before anything else.
P0193 FORD Description
The Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor is a diaphragm strain gauge
device in which resistance changes with pressure. The electrical
resistance of a strain gauge increases as pressure increases, and the
resistance decreases as the pressure decreases. The varying resistance
affects the voltage drop across the sensor terminals and provides
electrical signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) corresponding to pressure.
Strain
gauge type sensors are consider passive sensors. A passive sensor is
connected to a voltage divider network so that varying the resistance of
the passive sensor causes a variation in total current flow.
Voltage that is dropped across a fixed resistor in series with the sensor resistor determines the voltage signal at the PCM. This voltage signal is equal to the reference voltage minus the voltage drop across the fixed resistor.
The FRP sensor measures the pressure of the fuel near the fuel injectors. This signal is used by the PCM to adjust the fuel injector pulse width and meter fuel to each combustion cylinder.
