My 98 crown vic wont

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the sight. Did you check your starter solenoid? It may be that. You need to check your ignition fuse as well. Make sure the battery has a full charge and is holding a proper charge. If the starter isn't getting the full current, it may not work right. You need to make sure that you clean your terminals and post with a wire brush. Inspect all you wires from the battery to the starter. If you have to, test the wires for current with a voltage meter.

I just bought a 98

You didn't mention what engine the car has in it but a Crown Vic is a large car and if it doen't have the 4.6 liter V8 it's not going to be real snappy when it comes to acceleration. If the exhaust, especially the mufflers, are badly rusted this could be causing back pressure and not letting the engine perform properly.

Where do i place the jack to change a rear tire

Hello, When you look at the panel under the Rear and Front Doors you will see a Triangle mark under each door. The rear triangle is under the rear door and the front triangle is under the front door.

There is a body seam about 4 inches inward from the triangle mark and there is a notch in the body seam for the jack. You place the jack under the body seam where the notch is and catch the seam with the groove in the jack seat. Then it is in proper position to jack up your car.

Remember to break the tension off of the lugnuts before you lift the car. Lift the car and proceed to undo the lugnuts with a minimum of shaking on your car. With a flat, jack the car higher than the rim on the ground so the inflated tire will fit back on the vehicle.

My 1998 crow Vic engine

I'll assume the car is at operating temperature. Try locating the cooling fan fuse under the hood. If that is good, the temperature/fan switch is bad. If that checks good, the relay might be the problem, but not likely. These switches are a common problem.

Is it expensive to replace

Yes, it can be. Basically the whole top half off the engine has to be removed in order to reach them. You would also probably want to re-condition the heads while they are removed. Parts and labor are going to average about $1500.00, depending on the shop.

98 crown vic idles great

Hello, when you start it next, let the engine run at 1500RPM for about 10 minutes. In a state that has an Emissions test, that RPM is fast enough to measure the tailpipe Emissions. It therefore means all the Sensors should be working and reporting to the onboard computer. If something is going wrong a Code should pop up.

There is an automatic Parking Brake release which can use vacuum. When you shift out of Park, the valving on the switch moves and routes vacuum to the release. If the release diaphragm is leaking or the switch is cracked, it will lose Vacuum and the engine won't idle in gear.

Check your Intake manifold for Vacuum leaks in Park, with the motor running. Use either a water spray bottle or choke cleaner that is safe for plastics and rubber. Spray around seams and on Solenoids with Vacuum hoses. Check your EGR valve.

You may want to do a fuel sample and install a new fuel filter. At idle or out of gear you are not putting a power demand on the motor. Flat fuel can show up when the engine demands power.

Clean your sensor in the air Intake with Electronics cleaner. Check your trans fluid. There is also a TPS throttle position switch which may be giving the wrong info when you need to push the throttle down farther to move your car.

I hope my solutions help and you can use the reply for more help later.
