1983 Ford Mustang Hatchback - Page 8 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Why is it difficult to start?
I would start by checking your body, and engine ground. An easy way to check is to connect a jumper cable from the negative side of the battery to the body, and/or the engine.

How to reset the anti theft on a 03 mach 1 mustang gt
your anti theft device is activated, you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob, call your car dealer to get a new one, they are programmed for each car only, you cannot bypass it.

My 1999 mustang starts runs for 5 min then dies
run the fault codes
could be an electronic component over heating and failing (coil/s ignition module pump relay)
could be a cannister venting problem ( vacuum in the fuel tank)
could be an oxygen sensor throwing the ECM out

What do the wire in the middle goes to any help because my car keeps shutting of after 30 min of driving -97 mustang gt
You have to realize, that is your alternator. Your alternator only charges the battery. If your battery is going dead, then I would think the alternator might be the problem. But if it is charging, then it is doing its job. You need to find out what you are loosing when the engine dies. I would start with putting a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail so you can monitor the pressure when the engine is running and make sure you have over 40lbs of pressure and let the engine run until it dies. Make sure you have good pressure up to and a bit after it dies. If you have good pressure then go to the ignition system and make sure you have good spark and see if that is what you loose when it dies. Same thing with the injectors, you will need what is called a noid light to see the injector pulses.

99 mustang won't start it only do 1 click. If it
Battery good, cables good, all connections clean and tight, no corrosion on battery terminals? Try to determine if click is from solenoid on the starter or starter relay. Turn the headlights on and watch them while someone turns the key to start. If they get dim, probably the starter-have it tested-even new ones are sometimes bad. If lights don't dim, you will need to check the start circuit. Check for power on the small wire to starter solenoid when key is held in start. If no power there, work back towards the ignition switch. Check the neutral safety switch-should have power in and power out when key held in crank. The ignition switch will have a start wire out of the switch going to the neutral safety switch. It should have power with key in start, the only time the start wire will have power.Post back with what you find-good luck.

>
New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester or equivalent
418-F048 (007-00500)
NOTE: This procedure is used when a customer needs keys programmed into the system and does not have two programmed ignition keys available. This procedure is also useful when programmed ignition key(s) have been lost or the ignition switch assembly has been replaced, and it is desired to erase key(s) from the passive anti-theft system (PATS) memory.
NOTE: This procedure will erase all programmed ignition keys from the vehicle memory and the vehicle will not start until two keys have been reprogrammed to the vehicle.

NOTE: If additional keys are to be programmed, refer to Key Programming - Program a Key Using Two Programmed Keys. If the remaining keys are with the customer and are not available with the vehicle, then instruct the customer to refer to the Owners Guide under the "Programming Spare [SecuriLock ® (North America), Safeguard ® (U.K.) or PATS for all other markets] Keys Procedure" for instructions on programming the remaining keys.
- Turn the ignition switch from OFF to RUN.
- Enter New Generation STAR/Service Bay Diagnostic System (NGS/SBDS). Follow the SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE to obtain security access.
- From NGS/SBDS menu, select IGNITION KEY CODE ERASE.
-
NOTE: Do NOT select any additional commands from this menu.
Turn the ignition switch to OFF and disconnect NGS.
- Insert the first encoded key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to RUN for three seconds.
- Insert the second encoded key into the ignition lock cylinder and turn the switch to RUN for three seconds.
