How do I check the 4x4 switch

You will need a multi-meter . you will need to check the connections as you push each button to see if the signal is going through the switch.I have seen a few of these and they all were different, one was a switch and then a transfer actuator and the last was a module. You are on the right track, do you hear the transfer case engage when switching? is the transfer case engaging the front driveshaft but front wheels do not lock?

I have no power going to the coil pack of my ford explorer xlt 6 cyl 4.0 L

The check engine light gets power from the PCM - there is a PCM relay that gets power from a 10amp fuse number 6 and a 30amp fuse number 10 in the fuse box next to the battery. This can also affect the coil.

My battery terminals keep snapping and I have replaced the postive twice already in two months. What could be causing them to snap in half? They are hard metal so I don't understand.

A poor connection to the battery can melt a cable. Make sure your battery terminal is clean and free from corrosion.Make sure that your battery lead has slack and that it is not taught, especially when the engine is revving.Make sure you don't over-tighten the soft battery terminal as it will over stress.
