My van is completely locked up! My key won't turn at all. I have had no new key made and the spare key won't work either! The steering wheel is locked up as well as the brakes.
With the key in the ignition, tap on the key with something heavy like a pair of pliers, screwdriver etc. It will cause the pin inside the mechanism to drop, and the iginition will turn. Happened to me today, worked like a charm.

My wind star has an iradic idle I knotis it most when i'm stoped at a stop light my scan tool says that bank 1 and bank 2 are running lean. I think the codes are ?P0701, & P0704? What do I need to do to correct this problem.
The lean condition is caused from the upper intake gaskets and isolation bolts not sealing properly due to time and poor sealing qualities from the factory ther was a service bulliten for this through ford to replace the gaskets, bolts, vaccum line, and lh side valve cover for this concern the oil was getting onto the rubber contaminating it causing a vaccum leak. If you never had the tsb done i would start there, also if there is high milleage on the vehicle i would also clean the maf sensor and resedt kam.

2001 ford windstar runs fine except when driving in wet weather car runs rough and occasionally stalls.
Your ignition coil is cracked. Replace it with a new OEM unit.

I smell coolant when i drive, it smokes when it idles or when i park. it is not overheating. and the coolant is no longer full after i put some in the resovier
Several things to check. Have the cooling system pressure checked. A quick and simple test. Puts system under pressure and helps to locate a leak. The coolant doesn't just go away, it's got to be leaking either externally or internally. Be sure that the radiator cap is checked too. It needs to maintain the proper pressure for the system
Sound like coolant is leaking on the exhaust system. This can result in the smell and you will not see a leak as it is evaporating when it hits the hot pipes.
Good Luck

Anti-Theft —Passive
The passive anti-theft system (PATS) contains the following components:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Principles of Operation
The PATS uses a specially encoded ignition key. Each encoded ignition key contains a permanently installed electronic device called a transponder. Each transponder contains a unique electronic identification code out of over 18 billion, billion combinations.
The passive anti-theft system (PATS), also known as SecuriLock ®, uses radio frequency identification technology to deter a driveaway theft. This system is known as Securilock® in North America, Safeguard® in the U.K., and PATS in Continental Europe. Passive means that it does not require any activity from the user.
The SecuriLock® System (PATS) is not compatible with aftermarket remote start systems, which allow the vehicle to be started from outside the vehicle. These systems may reduce the vehicle security level, and also may cause no-start issues. If equipped the remote start system must be removed before investigation of PATS-related, no-start issues.
Each encoded ignition key must be programmed into the vehicle's powertrain electronic control (PCM) before it can be used to start the engine. There are special diagnostic repair procedures described in this section that must be carried out if a new encoded ignition key is necessary.
This system contains a new feature named Unlimited Key Mode. This feature allows a customer to program more than eight keys to the vehicle if they request it. Each vehicle in Unlimited Key Mode is set up with a special Unlimited Transponder Security Key. This allows all the customer vehicles to share the same keys, but no other keys from outside can be used to operate the vehicles. For an individual customer, any randomly selected Security Key is acceptable. Refer to Unlimited Key Mode Programming in Key Programming Switch State Control in this section.
The PATS transceiver module communicates with the encoded ignition key. The module is located behind the steering column shroud and contains an antenna connected to a small electronics module. During each vehicle start sequence, the transceiver module reads the encoded ignition key identification code and sends data to the PCM.
The control functions are contained in the PCM. This module carries out all of the PATS functions, such as receiving the identification code from the encoded ignition key and controlling the engine enable. The PCM initiates the key interrogation sequence when the vehicle ignition switch is turned to RUN or START.
All elements of the PATS must be functional before the engine is allowed to start. If any of the components are not working correctly, the vehicle will not start.
The PATS uses a visual theft indicator. The indicator will prove out for three seconds when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START under normal operation. If there is a PATS concern, this indicator will either flash rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START. The PATS system also flashes the theft indicator every two seconds at ignition OFF to act as a visual deterrent.
The following will activate the PATS and will disable the vehicle from starting:

2000 ford windstar power door locks do not work and have checked every fuse
The actuactors for your locks have a little motor in them. In this motor there is a resistor that will give out over time. Usually the locks gradually stop working over time. You can remove the actuator and take it apart and fix by removing the resistor in the motor and putting a peice of copper in its place. Takes about 30 minutes per door if you know what you are doing. Do a google search for ford windstar door lock fix and you will find several blogs with detailed descriptions of the repair.

my ford windstar is leaking antifreeze fast, what could be the problem? and can i fix it
If the antifreeze is leaking fast, then the most probable cause can be a hole or split in one of the coolant hoses. It is also possible for the radiator or water pump to have a leak. If you cannot see the leak when you inspect under the hood, then you may have to take the vehicle to your service repair shop where they can lift the van on a hoist to inspect underneath and they can pressurize the system to locate the coolant leak..

After my van has been ranned, I noticed a smell of coolant. I looked under my van, and saw drips coming (looking from passenger front tire) from the lower right side of the engine. I have not driven my van, to avoid doing more SERIOUS damage. But i notice the coolant in the coolant box is getting lower and the van is not being ran. My van starts strong, but will start to leak coolant as soon as its turned on (Not driving van, just trying to see where exactly the leak is coming from)!
check all your hoses run vehicle for awhile the inspect hose in this area. look for obvious things next check at the engine to see if a freeze plug is leaking then inspect you heater assembly the core may be leaking I'm leaning toward a hose or shut off valve
