2002 Windstar has a 3.8 litre engine, on this engine there is an automatic belt tensioner. The tensioner pulley is a the small one under the power steering pulley, yes, it's that small one way back there that is hard to get at. To remove the belt you would use a 15mm wrench on the belt tensioner pulley nut and rotate counterclockwise, when released it automatically tensions the belt, if you are hearing a squeal, look at the belt carefully and try to determine if it is running straight or one of the pulleys might be a little out of line causing the belt to lean away from its straight run. The problem here is usually the belt tensioner assembly is worn and needs replaced ( the whole assembly ) along with a new belt.

Most of the time oil in the cooling system is from a leaking head gasket or cracked cyl head. Usually head gaskets on 3.8 Ford engines.

It may be a dying console (faulty electronics). Never heard of the compass dimming when you press the gas. Does it dim when you are in park and press the gas? If you give the console a gentle tap, does it brighten back up? Do other lights dim?

Is the display dead?

You need a special factory tool to test the system. It is a scanner called an NGS

You need to have the systems computer scanned for trouble codes.

check plug wires. sounds like one 2 plug wires are in the wrong spot
