Rear taillights and turn signal lights not working

I asked that becauses of the wiring for the tow setup. If the previous owner had uhaul or one of the other tow companies out there install the wires for the tow package they use a crappy little product that they clamp to the wire and push a pin that cuts the casing and connects the circuit. It also seriously weakens the cables, and lets water in to the wire. Since you have a tow package I'd focus on those wires back there sounds like you may have a short. Those pins do have some wire exposure when installed right and I've seen them bundled and taped on the early 2000's explorers without being individually taped first, which leads to shorts and non working turn signals and brake lights.

Back door of explorer wont open, only the window does

First you need to somehow get the inside trim off of the rear lift gate. This can be tricky with the lift gate not opening, but it can be done. Be careful not to damage your trim. Inside you should be able to see the back side of the handle, wiggle the handle and see what connecting rod is not moving, there should be a little plastic piece broken. replace that and you should be fine.

Auto 4x4 Suddenly Stopped Working 2002 Explorer Sport

  • sounds like you might have a bad transfer case solenoid which is activated when you hit the 4x4 button to engage the 4 wheel drive. I had the same trouble turned out to be that only takes about 1/2 hour or less to change. It is located under driver side just behind trans looks like a small round cylinder with about 3 wires, you may have to cut and splice them back but be sure to put color to color and either tape them with electrical tape or solder them and then tape them.

I've got problems

Instead of a lock smith, you can use something to help pry open the top corner of the door. Then use a yard stick or something like that to hit the unlock button. It will save ya $40. That is if you have power locks, which I assume you do.
