It sounds like you might have two door latches that are faulty.... But you can try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and reconnect to see if that solves it. Sometimes VW's need their memory reset, have seen weird problems happen and this fixes it a lot of the time.

There is no such relay. It is derived from the ECU. Check for a bad earth or damage to the loom feeding the light cluster.

My only thought. I have had a couple problems with the magnetic keys in my cars. My wife key has gone bad twice but my key would work. It was the car she drives with her key. My key worked which I rarely used so we just replaced her key with a factory original from the dealership our problem was solved. I would suggest you swap the key you use and see if it makes a difference. If it does you will have some new info to give to the dealership.

Apparently there is a relearn period after installing a new battery, but there is nothing mentioned about a battery sensor. Number 1 tip when installing a new battery, is keep 12 volts power to the vehicle using wires to the old battery, jump leads or a battery charger. This might seem a silly suggestion but have you checked the actual switch on the light? It can be set to always on, Always off or door triggered. The rocker switch is usually set to the middle position for the door setting. Most modern cars now fit the switch into the actual door latch built into the door panel. You would possibly need to strip the door card off to remove the whole unit just to get access to the switch.

most mfg's put them under the dash have never wanted a VW so cannot be sure but wouldn't you think an auto parts store locally would know if you g in and ask them

If it 'cranks' it IS turning over. It is turning over, (cranking) but isn't 'firing' :>) You need to remove a fuel line near the engine firewall and verify the pump is working. You may have burned the pump out as they rely on the fuel for lubrication and cooling. This can depend on the year of the vehicle, which engine is fitted and the fuel type. The Velociti is also know as the Mk1 Golf, (the later facelift version), and the Rabbit. A workshop manual for any of these will have that information. It is worth getting a manual if you are doing these types of bigger repairs.
