The rear drum brakes:

  • Have internal shoes that expand against the brake drum (1126).
  • Are a single-anchor type.
  • Are actuated by one rear wheel cylinder (2262).
  • Have two pistons in the rear wheel cylinder (2261). One exerts force against the upper end of the primary shoe; the other exerts force against the upper end of the secondary shoe.
  • Adjust rear brake shoes and linings (2200) automatically.
  • Need manual brake adjustment if the adjusters are not operating properly or after the rear brake shoes and linings have been replaced.
When the brake pedal is applied, hydraulic fluid pressure forces the pistons in the rear wheel cylinder outward, moving the rear brake shoes and linings against the brake drum.
The rear drum brake system includes the parking brake mechanism. Refer to Section 206-05 .

1997 Ford F150 Electric Fuel Pump will npt pump

1997 Ford F150 Electric Fuel Pump will not engage to pump fuel through. Replaced fuel pump, replaced the relay switch, checked the fuses. Now what can I check?

Answer

Did you check the fuel inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel ?

The fuel pump is powered :
the fuse to the fuel pump relay.
The fuel pump relay to the fuel inertia switch
The fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump itself.

At the fuel inertia switch in the kick panel, power from the relay is the Dark Green w/ Yellow stripe wire and the pink w/ black stripe wire is the power. from the fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump.

If you jumper the fuel pump relay, you should hear it run. If not pull the fuel pump relay, and check the pins in the relay socket, pin 30 should be the power from the fuse.

If you have power at pin #30, jumper the relay socket as shown with the red line above, and check the dark green w/ yellow stripe wire at the fuel inertia switch for power.
Press the button on the top of the fuel inertia switch, and check for power leaving the fuel inertia switch on the pink w/ black stripe wire.

This is tests good, check for power at the fuel pump, same pink w/ black stripe wire.
Fuel inertia switch info is in the owners manual, If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

1997 Ford F-150 4x4: Electronic four wheel drive

1997 Ford F-150 4x4: Electronic four wheel drive will not engage. Was working then wouldn't engage when it was below 32 degress. But once warmed up would engage. But now it will NOT engage at all. The lights indicate that its in 4x4 and 4 low and it "clunks" like it's in but it is NOT engaged. Any suggestions?!

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground.
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

There are the two lines that operate the diaphragm on the axle. Facing the truck, the right solenoid (pink & black lines) is activated to disconnect the axle and go back into 2WD. The left solenoid (blue & white lines) lock the axle into 4WD

you'll have to get a vacuum source like a Mighty-Vac hand pump and apply vacuum to the pink and blue lines, one at a time. If one leaks down you'll have to check the line, including the diaphragm, to locate the leak. If vacuum was held, reconnect the bottom half of the line "connector" (black & white lines) to the solenoids and crank the truck. Switching from 2WD to 4WD and back verify each time that there is vacuum on the top nipple of the activated solenoid. If you're in 2WD the right solenoid (pink/black) should be sucking, in 4WD the left (blue/white) should be. If these operate as described then you axle shift fork may be bad. If you're not getting vacuum when you should be, replace the solenoid.

The other source of the vacuum leak ( if the lines to the solenoid test good ) is the vacuum box behind the battery.

first, check under te hood to see if the heater core water hoses are hot going in and coming out. If hot going in but cold coming out, water valve (if you have one) may not be working.

Control System Outputs
The air management doors are controlled by vacuum control motors (18A318) and an A/C electronic door actuator motor (19E616). The air inlet and distribution doors are controlled by vacuum control motors. The temperature blend door is controlled by the A/C electronic door actuator motor.
The A/C electronic door actuator motor provides a variable number of temperature blend door positions. Temperature control position energizes the A/C electronic door actuator motor moving the temperature blend door.
Vacuum control motors are used on both air distribution and air inlet doors. The air inlet and panel/defrost doors use a two position vacuum control motor. The floor duct/panel door uses a three position vacuum control motor. Vacuum control motors are controlled by engine vacuum through the climate control head.
