2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Thermostat

How do you change a thermostat on a 02 Pontiac Grand Prix Gt.

as you face the engine the thermostat bell is on the right (drivers side) Follow the radiatoe hose. Remove the two bolts and raise the bell still attatched to the hose. the thermostat is there with the rubber seal. You can gently pry the thermostat out with a screwdriver or something similar. Put in new thermostat be sure it is the same as the old one, and then replace or change the seal (be sure it is the smae size and thickness as the old one as I got the wrong size from Napa) Then replace the bell, and tighten, but not over tighten. I hope this helps!

How to adjust headlights-2002 Grand Prix

How to adjust headlights-2002 Grand Prix

The adjustment screws/nuts should be located either on the top of the headlamp assembly, behind the headlamp assembly, or near the frame rail by the radiator support.

You will have vertical adjustment screws for each independent beam (separate highs and separate lows, but will be same screw if highs and lows are the same bulb). You may also have additional horizontal adjustment screws as well

Park your car on a level ground 30 feet from a wall and measure the height from the ground to the bulb and mark on a wall (do this for highs beams and low beams if the bulbs are separate, if highs and lows are the same bulb, only do it for the lows)

For Low Beams: If the headlights read VOR, then aim the brightest part or cutoff part just below the mark on the wall. If it says VOL or nothing, aim them 2 inches below the mark on the wall.

For High Beams (if separate from low beams): Aim the headlight directly at the line you marked on the wall.

the temperature gauge on my 2002 grand prix dose

the temperature gauge on my 2002 grand prix dose not go pass 160 even when car has been running over 30 minutes and no warning lights come on, what are the possible reasons?

the temperature sending unit on a 97 grand prix 3800 gt(which is also the coolant temperature sensor) is not accurate. the sending unit part of this sensor only sends info to the guage on the dash. the coolant sensor part sends info to the computer of the car. it is located under thermostat and somewhat difficult to get at. i had put a brand new one in and my temperature on my dash is all over the place---even with good thermostat and properly bled system. when i hook up a scanner to my computer, the coolant sensor is sending the computer(ecu??) what seems to be the right temp. anywhere from 194 degrees to 217 when hot. the guage however on dash go from 160 to 260 in less than 2 minutes.

what kind of transmission fluid should i use

what kind of transmission fluid should i use

Answer

GM now recommends dextron 6 or VI in all automatic transmissions. It is a synthetic transmission fluid that was introduced in 2006.They no longer license or police the making of dextron 3 or III that was originally installed in your car. This is why you now find dextron III / Mercon because manufacturers are now combining the specs of both Ford and GM into one fluid.Dextron VI is compatible with all dextron II and dextron III fluids. It is more expensive because it is synthetic.Runs about $4-$6 a quart. You can still use dextron III but GM states you never know what you are getting.Well hope this helps.

my security light is on

my security light is on and flashing, wont let me start the car and keep it running, how do i turn the security system off or reset it

leave the key in the ignition, turned to 'run' (just before the crank position) and leave it there for about 15 minutes-the security light will then stop flashing-do NOT turn it off, turn it to crank and start the car. You have a security module that is not seeing the same resistance in the ignition switch as it expects, meaning you will have to either replace the ignition switch (expensive) or bypass the module (easy and inexpensive)-I have done lots of these, requires about 15 cents worth of parts and can be done in 1/2 hour.

Sounds like dirty, or partially clogged injectors. Have you run some fuel system cleaner through your gas tank? This is the least costly approach. Try 2 bottles in a full tank. Next could be dirty throttle body and or clogged air filter...no reference to mileage? Again these are small fixes you can attempt yourself. Read the instructions on a can of injector cleaner spray, and spray into your throttle body unit. You will need to completely remove the large inlet hose to gain access to spray...Hope this helps.
