How do i get a 1996 ford f350 diesel to start

you may have to flush the fuel system completely and use new fule filter, that also means the injector lines, diesel fuel tends to absorb more water than gas, then purge the system, make sure the glow plugs are working, new oil in the crankcase wouldn't hurt either

How many bolts hold on

if you are trying to ask the number of bolts just that hold down the turbo itself there are four.. but if you are asking about how many bolts need to be removed from the turbo to remove it there are three clamps one for intake from air filter, another for intake coming from compressor to the intake on the engine and another for the down pipe for the exhaust. but to remove turbo you will need to remove air intake with filter and tubes going to that along with the down pipe being popped off and pushed over, the intake for engine removed and put aside as well a few misc. little electrical parts

How many bolts hold on

2 bolts that go through and are held on by nuts .
5 bolts altogether, but 3 may or may not come off which are the studs - just the nut you need to take off
--------- There are 3 mounting bolts that hold it to the pedestal. Take the black push pins out of the cowl panel that hold the plastic wire loom in place. You need to remove the up pipe clamp, exhaust down pipe clamp, passenger side inter cooler tube, oil fill tube from passenger side valve cover and reinstall the oil fill cap only, removed black air intake tube that connects to turbo, removed oil supply line and the 3 mounting bolts that hold turbo to pedestal. Work the turbo back and forth and raise up. You will have to turn it a little sideways and play around but it will come out. -----This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Have a 1996 f-350 7.3 power stroke w/auto trans,

HI, I have a 350, brand new in one of my old skool muscle cars with a 350 trans that used to be a drag car trans.
We changed the gears in it to street gears (4:11 to 3:55 gears) and every once in a while it will not go to the high gear, so I pull over, put it in park then back to driving and it works beautiful each time!!!!
Nothing is wrong with this car at all, brand new engine and trans in a oldskool muscle car!!!
*** The point to the story is; nothing mechanical is "PERFECT", only God's creations right. ;)
So the moral is more than likely the problem is from the area of the "engine to the trans"(that junction) and I will say your trans gears may have problems, one look doesnot make it true!
Get a second mechanic to look at the trans inside...
Also, if you have too much fluid in the trans it will all be floating in trans fluid and will give you the same effect in any gear....

Its possible you have a code stored in the computer to help guide you.

Its also possible its time for a rebuild. Someone will have to remove the pan to see if there is any wear on the clutches.

What condition is the trans fluid in. Is it brown and burnt.

If your not sure you may need to get it inspected at least to see if you have a code stored, We can only guess here not seeing what condition the truck is in.

1996 Ford F350 turbo diesel - loud engine bang & black exhaust

Hi,

The explosion you heard could be one of the charge air cooler hoses coming off of the intercooler or the turbo. The hoses tend to get soaked with oil from the PCV system. Make sure all the hoses are secured to the intercooler and turbo. If they keep popping off, you my have a sticking turbo. The VGT vanes in your turbo tend to stick and will cause an overboost condition as well. If your truck has under 100K miles, any diesel problems should be covered under your warranty.

There could be many other problems. Without looking at the Truck and without Proper Diagnosis, it is Hard to tell, what's wrong with the truck. There are Few Recalls. We need to properly check, what actually might have happened, then only we could say, whether this is Covered Under recall or you might need to shed many bucks.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
