The 3.3 engen overheats but the fan doesn't

Try unplugging the temp sensor located on or near the thermostat housing. This will cause the fan to come on, if it works. If the fan does not come on then check for burnt wires near battery and fuse box. You may need to squeeze and manipulate these wires to find burnt area. I have seen coolant temp sensors, faulty fan motors, and burnt fuseible links cause this. When unpugging the CTS the check engine light will come on, don't worry about it.

Keeps running hot. Even with

Hello,
First, feel the top radiator hose (after engine has been running) - if the hose is not hot, but the engine is, then the thermostat is stuck closed. Also check the drive belts and make sure they are sufficiently tight. You should be able move them (pushing with fingers) less then a 1/4 of an inch. If you suspect they are loose, tighten them up. I also recommend purchasing, or borrowing a service repair manual.
If your van keeps running hot, and you have no leaks, then it sounds as though you need to replace the thermostat. Follow the top radiator hose to the engine. Where this ends is where the thermostat is. You will need to do this when the engine is cool. There should be two bolts that hold this to the block. Purchase a new thermostat (roughtly 8-10 bucks, and the gasket, if it does not come with it), and make sure to check the box; if it doesn't have one, request one from the parts associate. They are usually less than a buck.
When removing, make note of how the thermostat comes out, so that you put the new one in correctly. If it's put in upside down, you'll end up having to take it out again. So...with that said, once you replace this, you will be good to go.
Now, if for some reason the van shows it's reading hot again, make sure first you are not leaking water (anti-freeze). Watch for drips and water under the car, as well as around the water pump (passenger side engine, behind drive belts). If there are no visible leaks, and the van still shows it's reading hot, the thermostat (new) is installed correctly -then you may just have a bad sensor. This is the thermostat sensor which should be located on the bottom passenger side of the radiator. If so, you will need to drain the radiator (plug on either this side, or other, on the bottom; remove cap for faster drainage) - If you have a clean tub or container for which you can drain into, and reuse the fluid, do so - if not, simply purchase a new gallon of (un-diluted) anti-freeze (preferred, not necessary - 50/50 will work); and put into ridiator after installing new temp sensor.
For safe measure (as I recommend and do myself), when purchasing the new thermostat and gasket, purchase the temp sensor as well, this way you have covered both of these and know they are both good.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Where do I adjust the

you can not manualy set the rpm on your dodge caravan, it is set by your computer and your idle air control valve, if you are having problems with your idle being to high or low you may need to replace your idle air control valve, go to your local auto zone or auto parts store and get a new one, they are pretty easy to replace, just a couple of screws and a electric connection plug, the auto store should be able to give you the location of the part on your vehicle of where it is located.

Abs not working. hard brake

Hi there,

This is a common sign of a problem with either Vaccuum or the Brake Booster.

Power assisted brakes (brake booster) rely on vaccuum from the engine, to aid in the braking effort. The Brake Booster is a large round canister (which the master cylinder - brake fluid - is also attached to), on the driver's side firewall.

1) If the engine runs rough at all times, then there may be a broken/leaking vaccuum hose, reducing the vaccuum required by the brake booster. Check the vaccuum hose to the brake booster (from the engine) is secure and not leaking. Check for other vaccuum leaks (including engine inlet manifold) and repair where neccessary.

2) If the vehicle runs rough only after depressing brake pedal (while vehicle is stationary), then the brake booster is faulty.

The ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) computer is designed to respond only when a lock-up situation is detected at either of the four wheels. If the brake booster does not assist you to achieve the required braking, then the ABS computer will assume all is well.

Cheers,

Scott

Dodge Caravan 3L. Starter

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
The starter will be located at the back of the flywheel. There are two bolts that holds it and be sure that you remove the cable that leads to the positive battery connector. Yes the starter solenoid can be bad that's why the starter won't kick. Have it replaced and observe how it goes.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

How to unlock steering wheel

you actually have to have the key unless you are willing to take apart the steering column. That being said, on to the fun part....

You are going to need to remove the steering wheel and most of the outer shell of the Column itself. ther are a few screws under the column and another 2-4 behind the steering wheel itself*, once that is removed you will need to free up the ignition switch and free it from the council and then the wheel should be free.

*ALWAYS UNPLUG THE BATTERY AND WAIT 10 MINUTES BEFORE WORKING ON THE SRS TO KEEP YOURSELF FROM INJURY OR DEATH*

My 1991 dodge caravan is

theres a few things to check for this problem. the throttle body needs a good cleaning, especially around throttle plate. I fixed a 95 caravan a while ago, and it would stall for no reason, cleaned out throttle body and now its fine. also a bad cam sensor will cause this as well as a bad idle air tcontrol sensor ( IAC ) try cleaning throttle body good. do this first ok ! do you have a check engine light on, if so have it scanned to find problem code. its very hard to tell by not being there but try above.
