And then it runs good? If yes, there is a problem in your fuel pump circuit. It could be a bad fuel pump relay, but the circuit clearly has a problem. The engine computer should signal to the relay to send power to the pump when you are trying to start it. In fact when the key is turned to on, the computer should activate the relay and turn the pump on for about 2 seconds. That puts enough fuel pressure at the engine, so that cranking the engine over should start it- no fluid needed.

As a rule, intermittent problems when starting are electrical, whereas constant problems are mechanical. I would suspect a bad ignition coil, starter selenoid, or perhaps even a fuel pump that is going bad. Unfortunately, we the laypersons have no good way to test these things until they go bad altogether.
