1987 Chevrolet Celebrity - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
1987 Celebrity Fuel Pressure PROBLEM- The car is
No.. if there was a leak big enough to lose all pressure you would see fuel running on the ground. There is supposed to be no air in the system.. so air would not come out of the valve.. just gas. Next check to see of the fuel pump is running. Possible that it is not. When you turn on the key the pump should run for about 2 seconds to charge the system. Than when the engine starts the pump will commence running.. This is controlled bu the fuel pump relay. Which is controlled by the computer. You should be able to hear it run.. you may have to remove the gas cap and listen at the gas fill point. You can jump the relay to check if the relay is bad.. They are pretty cheap. The fuel pump is in the gas tank.. hard to get at if it needs replacing. You have to drop the tank. If you do this remove all the fuel you can from the tank. This series of GM cars did have fuel pump problems. (REMOVE THE BATTERY CABLE IF YOU TRY TO REPLACE THE PUMP)
Next remove the Fuel filter (its under the car) blow through it to see if its clogged. Replace it weather it is clogged or not. If it is clogged it could kill the fuel pump because it would make it work too hard. If It is clogged and you replace it.. car might start.
If not its probably the fuel pump, They can run and still not pump fuel if they are bad.
One last thing.. DOES THE CAR HAVE GAS IN IT? i HAD A CUSTOMER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND SOMEONE HAD STOLE ALL HIS GAS !!
GOOD LUCK.

How to replace the serpentine belt for a 1987 chevy celebrity 4.5 liter
1987 Chevrolet Celebrity Serpentine Belt Routing and Timing Belt Diagrams
I had to replace the belt on a 1988 Buick Century (similar to the Celebrity, but with a four-cylinder engine). I found that the only tool that could reach the belt tensioner in the limited space was a socket on a breaker bar; there wasn't room for a ratchet, and I couldn't get the correct angle for a wrench. There may be more room at the end of a V-6 The tensioner bolt is one of the larger metric sizes.
Clean all of the pulleys before installing the belt. Verify that the belt tensioner, water pump and alternator bearings are good - no rough spots or slop, and make sure the tensioner spring is good - the tensioner should require some force on the tensioner bolt head to move it, but it should not grind, hang, or have out-of-plane movement (perpendicular to the pulley rotation).
If everything looks good, you can install the belt. The grooved side is on the inside around the grooved pulleys, and the smooth side is on the inside around the smooth pulleys. Make sure the belt is correctly seated on the grooved pulleys. Save the tensioner pulley for last - use your tool to pull the tensioner in against the spring, and slip the belt on over the tensioner pulley. {CAUTION: do not let your fingers get between the belt and the tensioner pulley. If your tool slips at this point, you'd be in a world of hurt.} Take one more look to make sure the belt is centered on all of the pulleys, then slowly release the tool to apply tension to the belt.
I cannot locate the flasher unit in my 1987 chevy
Both four way and directional flasher are usually on the fuse block. Sometimes the directional flasher is separate and up under the edge of the dash. To locate the 4way, turn it on and find the item thats clicking. The directional flasher looks identical but won't be clicking.
How to remove radio

Proportioning Valve 87 Chevy Celebrity
Usually if the car has a valve it is mounted on the firewall. But your master cylinder has 4 connections, one for each wheel. So I doubt your car has a separate proportioning valve. You could check with the dealer to verify.
At what mileage should I have the timing chain changed? Now has 103,000
with a 2.5? the 4 cylinder used a fiber gear aginst an aluminum gear, they get noisey when they wear out,if it sounds like it's noisey it's time to change it,(have a cool trick for that also,GM says pull the camshaft, but you don't have to) if it's a 2.8 it's a chain ,it will go another 50,000
I was driving my 1987 cheverolet 2.5L 4 cyl down the highway and it started making a rattleing noise and then just shut off and it wont start back up what do you think it could be? the timing chain? o
Has to be something else. That engine has neither a chain nor a belt for timing. The camshaft is located near the crankshaft. It has a gear on the end that meshes with a larger gear on the crankshaft. When you try starting it, what kind of noise does it make? Any more rattling? But the sound of the starter-does it make the same noise turning as it used to? Or do you hear a distinctly different note, like a higher pitched (freer running ) whine? I'm wondering about the valve train. Maybe something came apart. I guess I would take off the valve cover and watch the valves and rocker arms as someone cranks it over. You may see a rocker arm that is off or not aligned proper. If all looks good under the valve cover, and no more rattles of death, you are back to checking for spark and gas in a no-start condition. Good luck, Adam.I hope you keep it running-I owned an 87 celebrity 'bout 10 years ago. That car made it to over 400,000 miles, honest. It took 2 engines to make it, but what a great car.
Injector not working why put
Check fuel pressure. Have you replaced the fuel filter on schedule? Verify that the fuel pump is getting power. Power goes through an in-line fuse, then the fuel pump relay or the oil pressure sensor. (The relay bypasses the oil pressure sensor while the engine starts, but fuel pump power goes through the sensor during normal run operation. If you lose oil pressure, the fuel pump is shut off to protect the engine.) On four-cylinder models, the fuse is in the fuse block (E PUMP 10)The fuel injectors are connected to the ECM fuse on one side and straight to the engine computer on the other side. Check the connectors and wiring, especially at the injector.
Where is the timing chain at on a 1987 chevrolet celebrity?
Assuming that this is an 2.5L...
Fig.: Exploded view of the 2.5L timing chain and marksImage Zoom Link:
repair_guide/0996b43 Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the crankcase front cover. Loosen the camshaft bolt. Place the No. 1 piston at TDC with the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets aligned. Remove the camshaft sprocket and chain. If the sprocket does not come off easily, a light blow with a plastic mallet on the lower edge of the sprocket should dislodge the sprocket. To install: Aligning the timing marks with the engine at TDC, install the timing chain and sprocket. Insert and tighten the camshaft bolt to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm). Lubricate the timing chain with engine oil. Install the crankcase front cover. Connect battery negative cable.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate
