Replace lifters
First how many miles on the vehicle and how long was the car run low on oil? Most cars today have an integrated fuel pump that will shut off if the engine is low on oil. Most likely you have either gotten some dirt into the lifters causing the noise so I would start with a fresh oil change and filter and add a good oil additive to help clean the insides of the engine. I personally like Rislone products because I have had good luck with them but any good additive that quiets lifters will have a detergent to help clean the lifter and help prevent lifter bleed-down.
How do i pull out an ignition switch that is broken on a 1993 mercury sable
if you're asking about the switch, it's located under the dash on the PASSENGER side of the steering column, drop lower dash covers and pull seat as far back as it will go (drivers seat) there will 2 rather small bolts (try not to loose them) and a rod that activates the switch. pull switch out and toward frt of car to disconnedct the igntiion rod,be carfull not to dislodge this rod froim the ignition cylinder so do let let that rod go forward just the switch as this will require major disassembly !!! new switch install the rod in the switch and remount switch to column. if you're talking about the key cylinder its a bit more involved special tools will be required !!!

Burning a lot of gas
your O2 sensor must be out. It is in charge of reading you fumes output to determine if you are running too much or too little gas. When this goes out, your car will go in default mode and push more gas in. In return, your car will burn more gas
