How do i adjust/fix play in steering
There is a 'dampener' on the steering box- it is a nut that surrounds a bolt (I think it has a allen head)-loosen the surround bolt and tighten the bolt, it dampens the recirculating ball in the steering box. Other than that, steering linkage parts and proper tire alignment are the only other factors that determine 'play' or lack thereof-the steering box can also have slop in it that might require either a rebuild or replacement.
1980 el camino---brake problems
Fuse should be under dash on left side. Providing that there is power there and power at the signal switch (and bulbs are good) likely there is a problem in the signal switch.
I own a 1979 chevy El Camino and i have recently
Most likely, your in-tank fuel filter has gotten clogged, or the intake has gotten clogged. See if you can either pull it out, or if that is impossible (I'd hope not!) get a tank repair specialist to do it. But given it's getting closer to the "DIYer" age, it should allow you to do it yourself.
1. dome light turns on and off when door is
The wire going to the door pin switches must be touching ground somewhere or you have a bad pin switch. The pin switch is located on the body in the front of the door jam. As far as the smog pump all you need to do is just take off the belt. (for off road use lol)
Hi. i have a 1980 chevy elcamino. turn signal
There should be two flasher controls in your fuse box, one for the hazards and one for the blinkers. If replacing the flasher does not work, a bad ground at the signals can cause this problem.
Theres a piece of paper that has slid down over
everything comes forward so it has to come off. I am not sure if there are only 4 screws in the dash that sounds like not enough. Once you get all the knobs and such out of the way and all the screws out the panel should pull out forward.

Need to replace heater core
Heater Core
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
-
1978 and Later Without A/C
- Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.
CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
- Disconnect and plug the heater hoses from the core tubes.
- Disengage the electrical connectors from the module case.
- Unbolt and remove the module's front cover and lift out the core.
To install:
- Install the core and apply sealant to the module cover, then install the cover and secure.
- Engage the electrical connectors to the module case.
- Remove the plugs, then connect the heater hoses to the core tubes.
- Connect the negative battery cable, then refill the engine cooling system and check for leaks.
1967 and Later With A/C
- Disconnect the negative battery cable, then drain the engine cooling system to a level below heater core.
- Disconnect and plug the heater hoses at the core tubes. Plugging the hoses will help prevent excessive coolant leakage.
- Remove the module's rubber seal and screen. If necessary, disconnect the washer nozzle from the cowl.
- If necessary, remove the right windshield wiper arm.
- As applicable, remove or disengage, the diagnostic connector, high blower relay, thermostatic switch, ground strap and/or electrical connectors from the heater core module cover.
- Loosen the retainers and remove the module's top cover. The cover is sealed to the module and this seal must be broken before the cover can be removed. Be absolutely sure that all cover fasteners are removed before attempting to break the seal or cover damage will result. Take your time and be careful not to force and crack or otherwise damage the cover.
NOTE: On many late model vehicles, cover interference with the vehicle's bulkhead will may removal difficult. On these vehicles it will be necessary to loosen the windshield's chromed lower trim plate for the necessary clearance.
- With the top cover removed, loosen or unclip the core retainer, then carefully lift the core from the vehicle.
To install:
- Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the cover and the module of all old sealer.
- Install the heater core to the module and secure the retaining bracket.
- Apply a coating of sealant to the cover, then install the cover and tighten the fasteners. If the windshield trim plate was loosened for clearance, reposition and secure it.
- Engage the electrical connectors and components to the module cover, as applicable.
- If removed, install the right wiper arm.
- Install the module screen and rubber seal. If removed, install the washer nozzle to the cowl.
- Remove the plugs and reconnect the heater hoses to the core tubes.
- Connect the negative battery cable, then properly refill the engine cooling system and check for leaks.
