My 1987 El Camino stalls
Does it feel like the engine is stalling or the transmission is not disengaging? You may have a transmission or toque converter problem. If it is your engine you may have an EGR valve issue or an Idle air control issue.
How do I free a
You have to remove the trim from around the headlights first. The screws are torx and with them out the bezel should come right out. You will see a chrome ring around the headlight. There will be Philips or star screws holding this on, it's been a while but I think there is 2, one on top and one on bottom. They are short and usually very hard to get out, you may need to use Vice grips to get them turning. You will also see 2 other screws, one on the outside of the light and one on top. DO NOT turn these, they are for your adjustment. With the chrome ring off the light will fall ahead, unplug it and put the new one back in. Put the trim back on. Hope this helps.
Steering wheel moves 1/2 inch to the side
It sounds like the upper steering colomn bowl is loose. The bolts come up from the bottom and hold the lower portion of the steering wheel cover to the upper. The steering shaft runs down thru the middle of both. If loose the steering wheel will rock side to side in the upper bearing race, not holding the shaft tight or straight. Its actually easier to remove the entire steering colomn, turn upside down and tighten. Remove the lower steering shaft at the firewall (mark the spline alignment). Disconnect the electrical connections at the lower colomn. Disconnect shifter (if not floor console shifter). Unbolt from dash and remove the entire colomn, with wheel attached. Flip over and chek the lower bolts for tightness. It can be done from disassembling the colomn, but its a lot of work and lots of little pieces to loose.
CAR IS LEAVIING WATER AND
This is likely a freeze plug that has rotted away. Freeze plugs are steel or brass inserts about 2 -3 inches in diameter that allow for the engine block to flex instead of crack under extreme temperatures. Look carefully nearest the starter and that is what you will most likely see. The old one will need to be extracted with a screw driver or other suitable tool. The new one will need to be fitted carefully or you will either push it into the engine block or it will continue to leak.
How do you take apart the steerin colum
Not hard but a little time is involved.take pictures each time or each step to remember how to reinstalled it.. Take the 2 screw from the back of the steering that holds the front cover in place. Remove the big nut from the center . Next you will need a steering wheel puller which you can buy or rent from Autozone or buy from your local parts store. You also need to rent or buy the ring pressor. After you remove the steering wheel .. Remove the horn button note the way it is installed and removed. then you will use the ring pressor to removed that ring clamp.Good Luck!!!

Trying to bleed brake line,
It sounds like you may not be doing the process corectly. If you are, then I apologize. Make certain that the bleeder valve is in the closed position. Have another person pump the break peddle much in the same sequence as CPR (if that helps). Upon your command, the other person needs to apply steady pressure to the brake peddle until you tell him to release, and not before. While he is applying pressure, you, open the bleeder valve. At that time, the peddle should go to the flow. Close the bleeder valve BEFORE you tell him to release the pressure. Repeat the process until all four brake calipers have been bled, (meaning that you get a stream of fluid with no air bubbles.Periodically throughout the process, it is important to make certain that you have plenty of fluid in the reservoir. That should do it. If not, I'd like to know. Good luck.

Hi! You may not have damaged the fuel gauge. It sounds like a fuel gauge fuse problem to me. Please do check the fuel gauge fuse for inaccurate reading means the fuse is faulty. Please check the fuse and replace. Hope this helps and have a good one!
How to replace the headlight on a 1987 chevy el
Check this GM Chevy Mid-Size Cars 1964-1988 procedure from Repair Guide...
Headlights - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
If some or all of the headlight bulbs being replaced still operate,
refer to the headlight aiming procedure later in this section to ease
checking or adjustment of the headlights after installation.
-
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
-
Loosen and remove the retaining screws, then remove the headlight
bezel from the front of the vehicle.
-
On most models, the headlight bulb retaining ring is only held on
by retaining screws. If so, remove the bulb retaining ring screws. These
are the screws which hold the thin metal ring which holds the bulb
against the adjusting plate. Do not touch the two headlight aiming
screws, at the center of the top and side of the retaining ring (these
screws will have different heads), or the headlight aim will have to be
re-adjusted.
One way to identify the retaining ring screws is that they will be
threaded through a lip on the outer edge of the retaining ring before
threading through the adjusting plate. One the other hand, the
adjustment screws are threaded through the adjustment plate and a spring
loaded holder underneath it.

-
Some later model vehicles will use a spring on the retaining ring.
If so equipped, disengage the spring from the retaining ring, using a
cotter pin removal tool, then remove the retaining ring screws.
-
Pull the bulb and ring forward and then separate them. Unplug the
electrical connector from the rear of the bulb and remove the bulb from
the vehicle.
To install:
-
Plug the new bulb into the electrical connector.
-
Position the retaining ring over the bulb, then install the
assembly to the adjusting plate. Secure using the retaining screws and,
if applicable, the spring.
-
Install and secure the headlight bezel.
-
Connect the negative battery cable.
Loosen and remove the headlight bezel retaining screws
Make sure all of the screws are removed, then pull the bezel from
the front of the vehicle
Loosen and remove the retaining ring screws
Pull the retaining ring and bulb forward to separate themUnplug the electrical connector from the rear of the headlight
Hope helps (remember rated this).
1980 El camino three speed, having a sudden loss
Try replacing the ignition module and check the pick-up coil for broken wires. The wires on these pick-up coils are solid and after years of use can break inside of the insulation. Also check the vacuum advance hose for cracks and the unit for proper function. The vacuum advance pulls the pick-up coil and rotates it to advance the timing causing the wires to break. To change the pick-up coil you will have to pull the distributer out of the engine and disassemble it, meaning that you will have to remove the gear from the bottom and pull the shaft out which may not be easy because of years of grime build-up inside of the distributer housing. Also check the vacuum modulator on the transmission (the cylinder looking thing that the vacuum line from the engine connects to) for trans fluid in the line and being sucked into the engine. Usually when its bad you'll notice white smoke coming from the tailpipe.
I have fuel in my spark plugs
Either you have no fire or you are over-fueling the engine. This can be caused by too big of a carb or a plugged exhast.
