1983 Chevrolet Camaro - Page 5 Questions & Answers
My 1983 Camaro steering column
sounds like the univisal joint has lost its bearings or cap with needle bearings. Best case tear it down and change the U joint. Go to the auto parts store and buy a 20 dollar manual to aid in the tear down. Best of luck any questions just ask.
Stalls out when goings 70 mph
check for proper fuel delivery and pressure, check distributor module and internal wiring. Can't offer a cure without lots more info but you can determine what's going on usually by doing tests found in inexpensive manuals like chiltons or haynes, and a decent multi-meter.
Looking for baseline jetting for holley 850 cfm dp
Baseline would all depend on what its going on big block or small block if its a small block a 850 is too much carb. because you have to jet it down so far to get it to run right and not foul the plugs because of to much gas unless its built 650 or 750 would be the right carb for the street you can start with 70 in front and 72 in rear is a good starting point, the thing to do is get a jet kit from holley and experiment with it.
My 350 engine has a choke do i need it and why
Yes you do need it. It's purpose is to allow less air during cold starts, and then it gradually opens as the sngine starts to warm up. They make automatic chokes, and manual ones you open and close with a cable.
How do you take off a starter
Disconect the battery..
From under the front end - disconect the wired from the stater..
Then there are 2 bolts that hold the starter in..
Take out the bolts and the starter will come out..
It only goes in one way so you cant mess it up..
Not a very dificult job..
Hope this helps !!
Please rate me good ;o)
Replaced ignition switch, now car won't start
Dont panic, you can do this. First you must get a multimeter. Their cheap at harbor frieght 5 bucks. Then check the battery, car off, should be 12 volts. car on 13,14 volts. Possibly the ignition switch wires are touching. That of course would be a short. Also try to jump start the car, if it turns over you found your problem. If not you must start check the connections from the battery. follow the wires, negative to frame, make sure its tight, positive to starter make sure its tight to starter post. Use meter to check for power on the wires. Okay buddy good luck.
Coolant leaking into Oil
If you take your radiator cap off when your car is cool, then crank the engine, you can watch the water level. if the water sprays out immediately, it is most likely a gasket, either head gasket or intake. If the engine has to warm up a little before bubbles appear in the water or it begins to run over, then it will probably be a cracked head, as the crack would have to warm up and expand to allow the water to leak through. Let me know if this helps :)
83 Z-28 Doors are open but seem to be locked.
if you you can get into the car take your door panel off and you should see a little rod that is running from the lock mechanism this is attached by a small plastic clip and a lot of times those clips will fall off you can try to get it to rehook but you will be beter off replacing it with new ones and also while you have the door panel off make sure to lubricate the mechanisms i hope this helps you out
