Will not start

The heavy gauge wire (Thicker one) is attached to the battery and carries 12 volts at all times. The thinner wire carries 12 volts from the ignition switch and when the key is turned from run to start the 12 volts flows through the circuit to activate the starter and causes it to crank. There are generally a number of other components it flows through first you may need to check...if you have an automatic transmission it needs to flow through the neutral safety switch and may be routed through anti-theft relays as well. They all must be in proper order or positions before the voltage will flow and cause the starter to crank.

Where are the shift sensors located on a 92 Chevy

Shift sensors are indicators for a computer controlled circuit. Most times, they are contained or housed within a solenoid pack. As they are an electronic monitor, the area they are housed in will usually have a multi-pin wiring harness leading to it. The harness connector is normally protected with a rubber grommet around it. I have seen these grommets "folded over/pinched" during assembly line installation. The purpose of the grommet is to form a water proof barrier within the harness connection. As this is a 4x4, it most likely sees somewhat rougher conditions and exposure. Any ammount of water spraythat reaches a weakened grommet is likely to penetrate through to the alloy electrical terminals. These "pins" rarely rust, but they DO corrode. The fine, powdery, blue corrosion inside the connections can act like an insulator and corrupt the signal. If disconnecting the harness pigtail is possible, physically look into the harness ends and at the pins. If there IS corrosion, try tapping the harness end against the transmission or transfercase to dislodge any loose particles. Usually, just a quick burst of air is enough to clear out the connection on the vehicle. Sometimes, that's all it takes. If there IS corrosion evident, FILL the cavity containing the pins with a dielectric gel/grease, before reinstalling the pigtail. DO NOT use silicone!

My exhaust pipe rusted off

Replace with new one. You really can't get past this one. If it rusted at the exhaust manifold you should be able to get one at a wrecking yard fairly cheap. If you change anything on the exhaust make sure you spray break free.

If your transmission is a 700r4 (4l60) you have a reverse band that engages when you want to go in reverse. since it drives forward your low reverse clutch and your fwd clutch are working. This leaves the band which was probably slipping now is not engaging.

No gas getting to carb.

OK well first its not a carburater , it is throttle body feul injection. If you are pumping the pedal expecting to see gas squirt it will not happen. You need to use a feul pressure guage and see if you have pressure at the throttle body.If you do not then you need to make sure you have 12 volts at the pump and a good ground source. Also just because the pump will pump does not mean it will make pressure. The pressure should be at least 12 psi.If you have feual pressure you probaly have another problem that is keeping the injectors from opening.I would have diagnostic codes pulled.
