The emergency cable probably didnt retract back to it's normal position. See where the cable connects to the latch on the body of the vehicle (not the lid) if you can follow it. Can you disconnect the power at the battery? When you reconnect it follow the guide lines of the owner's manual in 'change battery' section.

Try un hooking battery.
