EGR
if it's just the valve, I suggest replacing it.
Oil leak
Check your oil pan, did you run over something? That many quarts of oil has to be leaking from somewhere. Headgasket blown would likely show as water mixing with engine oil(no loss of water would likely remove likelihood of blown headgasket).
98 Chevy Lumina engine wont turn over
Its time for another car Jerry. The oil pressure light was telling you the engine was running on less than 10 psi of oil pressure, and the knock was a rod or main bearing. Now that the engine has been run low on oil pressure for some time, one of the rod or main bearings is junk, and so is the engine.By the time you replace the engine, even with a used one, you could take the same money and buy another car. Even if you took the engine apart and fixed the bad bearings, the rest of the engine parts are very weak from running without oil.
Alternator
Start engine and run at 2500RPM the disconnect the battery and turn all electricals on one at a time ,if engine stops then alternator isnt producing enough current
Coolant light come on which indicates an overheating condition
You can never run water in the system, water will boil. You must have a 50/50 coolant/water.Have the system flushed, the radiator can become restricted from old coolant, the fins have very small ports for flow and can become blocked leading to less cooling. No thermostat means full flow, so this should not be running hot.Usually the only way a water pump goes bad is when they leak, they are a direct drive, and the propeller never wears out unless at some point someone had to high of a coolant mixture.Get the system flushed to clean it and have it made into a 50/50, can't have mostly water, coolant dissipates the heat. If flushing does not help, the cheapest first thing is a new radiator, or get a new core for it, that's cheaper.
Radiator fans not working, where is the radiator fan relay for 1991chevy relay
Let me give you a simple fix The biggest cause of fan burn out is voltage drop. On 80% of Chevy cars Lumina and the Malabu and even the Caramo I have had over 300 to come through here and this is a simple fix unless upu want to spend 400 bucks to go back to doing a lot of replacement parts and battle with it for several days going through being up set. Ok Listen very close OK go to the parts store and buy a toggle switch and some 14 gage wire about 25 foot of it and several zip ties Your fan has 2 wires coming out of it solid black is ground Cut both wires off and the ends going into the harness tape real good so they don't touch splice into the ground and go to battery the other wire weed through the harness and shere is a small hole through the dask and find a place to attach the toggle switch run a wire from the fuse box 30 amp attatch to the toggle both hots use the switch on and off when you start your cat turn the switch on and when you kill it turn it off. A 91 is wore out and like old people like me we have to cut corners to make things work This is simple and low cost to you.
