Have a 1998 chevy c2500
Check the hot wire going to/at the distributor .. a number of these were crimped on the wires insulation/casing and not on the wire itself,,, it makes intermittent connection.
..This is hard to diagnose,, your symptoms are exactly what this causes... Good luck...

There is a sequence of tightening the head bolts in a specific order in 2 passes, the preferred method is to tighten all bolts to 22 ft lbs, then add 75 degrees turn to long bolts, 65 degrees to medium bolts, and 55 degrees to short bolts. If you need the picture go to a library and use alldata to print it out.

This is usually caused by a bad valve or a bent pushrod. Either way at least one of the exhaust valves is not seating properly. You could pull the valve covers, remove the rocker arms, and pull each pushrod and check them one by one for straightness to eliminate the easy fix, but if you don't find a bent one you will have to pull the heads to check the valves. Personally I would pull the heads anyway and inspect them because a bent pushrod could be a symptom of a bigger problem.
