How many are in the 3100 motor in a Chevy lumina

Sounds like you ran your oil pretty low my not be lifters but connecting rods. Was it a tapping sound or knocking?

Compressor clutches go bad sometimes.. it is an electromagnetic device on front of compressor. You may also need shot of refrigerant. Level may be at point where it is on brink of being low.

Plug do not come pre gaped. Pull the plug and set the gap.

TRY TO RELEASE THE FUEL PLUG WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT MAY BE BUILDING UP VACUUM.

Could be several things....but i need more information. When it doesnt start, does it crank or when u turn the nothing at happens other than the relay?

It sounds like the security system in the car has failed its really common i had it happen to me. I did a lot of research and found a part to fix the issue.. I took it to a mechanic he wanted $400+... look this over your car is on the list for this problem.. hope it helps

The battery and the main power distribution box is all right in that area. So, that makes it hard to tell you without more information.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina with the 3.8L engine. In 2009 I also smelled fuel when I drove my car. My leak was located at the fuel rail output connector. Chev house said I had to replace the entire fuel line all the way back to the tank. Say what? I easily fixed the problem by installing a NAPA #7304922 3/8" Nylon Fuel Line Retainer (repair kit - $25).

Some vehicles have a tendency to start getting a lifter tap, when the engine's oil level comes down to the point where it is a quart or more low. I suggest you check the oil level, top it off if necessary, and check to see if it isn't due for an oil change. I would try the heaviest oil recommended for that vehicle..

If you know the plugs are fine then an ignition wire or a coil will cause the same symptom . If you had a code reader it would show you which cylinder is causing the miss. Beyond that a compresion test is needed.

Make sure the likage is hook up right and fluid level is good..You just might have a defective trans

Well the head gasket set is around $130 depending on where you live. With the other parts needed to R&R the heads I would say $200 might do it. You would have a machine shop check the heads for damage which would be an additional fee.A repair shop would add 25% or so for markup.
