1996 Chevrolet Cavalier - Page 9 Questions & Answers
Please explain on a 96 cavalier 2.2 it say to torque heads 90 degress?
You are referring to the cylinder head bolt-torque sequence. Here is the instructions, then I'll clarify.
-
Install cylinder head bolts finger-tight. New cylinder head bolts are recommended.
-
Tighten bolts in sequence, tighten the long bolts to 46 ft. lbs.
(63 Nm) plus 90 degrees. Tighten the short bolts to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm)
plus 90 degrees.
The cylinder head is made of aluminum. Over-torque of bolts can result in warping or cracking of the head. Also, some of the head bolts go into the water jacket. Those bolts requires a teflon sealer or water will come up through the threads and result in coolant leaks. Use a thin wood dowel to probe the cylinder head bolt holes to see if they bottom out or go into the water jacket. When you tighten the bolts, do it in the sequence directed, up to the toque specified for each length bolt. Once that has been done, you will make one more circuit of the bolts, tightening each one by 90 degrees. The easy way to do this is to place your torque wrench on a bolt with the handle pointed at 6 o'clock. Tighten the bolt another 90 degrees, or when the handle reaches 9 o'clock. 90 degrees is 1/4 revolution of the bolt. (You can start the wrench anywhere that is convenient to make the 90 degree advance without interruption.)Hope that helps!
My son has a 1996 chevy cavalier with a 2,2 liter
2 things come to my mind.
first I would check the fuel pump unit. Usually a bad fuel pump would fail when it gets hot, only to resume working after cooling. To check if the fuel pump is operational when the car dies, put the key in On position right before cranking position and try to listen to the fuel pump making its operating noise or not.u need to be in a quite area to be able to hear it. U could take it to a local mechanic and ask him to check the fuel pressure from the pressure valve in the engine bay.
second scenario is the CSPS. Crank shaft position sensor, located on the top side of the transmission near the flywheel housing.(front top side of the transmission) a bad Csps would fail and cause the engine to die when it gets hot even under very normal weather conditions.
Check and let us know. Good luck
Transmission dipstick
there is no dipstick only plug oil levelhow to checkengine running remove oil level plugfill it up until it leak at oil level holethen screw the plug back
Starter solenoid replacement
-The solenoid itself is easy to replace. But how easy you can get to it.-First disconnect battery cable before work on.Mai
Cavalier starter
Sounds like a problem with the key switch or the anti-theft system.
Battery warning light is coming on for no apparent
Try removing either battery cable for about 15 mins. that should reset the computer in car and make battery light go off, if that dont work check battery cables to make sure they are tight. Billy Wyatt
