1991 Chevrolet Corvette - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

I have a 1991 convertible Vette and I had a simular problem. The top would release from the deck, but only the driver's side latch would release on the deck lid. What I discovered is a small bracket that is held on by a retaining washer clip and the clip had come off. Went to the hardware store and bought a new one for $ .50 and remounted the bracket. The manual release for the deck is located behind each seat, pull towards the center of the car.

If you have good spark at the plugs then it is vacuum or fuel. 1 vac listen for hiss in the few min it runs check lines for damage, splits, unhooked etc. don't forget under car and dash 2 check fuel pressure, check for fuel delivery to the cyl. remove spark plug crank and check small look for fuel. remove coil wire so it won't start on you. I hope this diagram is correct? At the relay, the relay has two sides, the load side carries voltage to the pump, that is the line that looks like it switches between D and E. The control side of relay is on the right, that side needs voltage and ground. The voltage comes from ecm, usually a green wire with white tracer. Did you check for voltage on that wire, engine cranking? Even though the fuel pump gets voltage through the oil pressure switch, does the vehicle start and run? If more than one problem, I'd have to check rpm signal and where applicable, security system. I was just curious, engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse?

Try a full cooling system overhaul. completely flush the rad, check all hoses, frewh coolan of the appropriate type and to the correct concentratin. Bleed the system.check the thermostat is opening closig at the appropiate tem[erature and that the fan is running as fast as it should. The temp really should not ne that high I think. Also ensure the system is properly bled. If too much heat is generated your engine will die so it is important to deal with this issue

Your Vette is notorious for clogged fuel filters and or bad fuel pumps. I'm going to link a video to what i believe is the problem.

39 pounds is not enough. Make sure the regulator is good, check for injector resistance

No it won't do this. Vats is only for theft protection. But if you or they cut the wrong wire, that could kill anything. If you or they spliced wires, the A/C should still work.

In the bottom corner bumper area...if so try going in ram air inlet besides it ..I fought one and ended up going that way after wasting time

Very simple use a star key and loosen the two front bolts between the sun visor and windshield insert the key vertically (one on each side) next with same key loosen the back bolts above behind head (one on each side), and it comes right off. Sorry, I don't remember key size.

Take out the air vents first the screws that hold the dash are behind them. Careful to keep track of the screws you will notice they are of different sizes. I'm just giving you what I can recall it's been a while since I removed mine for servicing, Hope it helps.

Does it crank,Turn over? If not it probably is a problem called "heat soak".. the starter is hot just from engine heat and wil not function. If it cranks but will not start i would check to see if it is getting spark.. if not than check the IGN module in the distributer. Do not replace it until you have it checked, costly part, i think Orilly auto parts has a machine to check it.. Could also be a ign coil going bad.. (coil slight chance)

Explain this problem a little more will help in proper solution. Is this fuel injected or carbureted. Can you hear fuel pump kick on when you turn key. Sounds to me like the fuel pump never shuts off if you have gas always coming out. Could be bad pump or the wiring going to the pump but i'm not sure because i don't know what type of fuel delivery you have.

I have the same problem I replace the Gear in in both or my light go to E bay and researcher repair kit for corvette light , if You to know how repair them log again to Fixya .

Does it have an alcohol detector fitted? Is the alcohol detector stopping the car from starting. Its meant to do that unless you prove you have no alcohol on your breath.

replace the alternator, its guilty as charged, no pun intended.

idle air control is looking for base idle. throttle body base idle plate is dirty with carbon. cleaned out throttle plate with carb cleaner and tooth brush. use rags to catch black carbon.open plate.by some one hold throttle plate open with gas pedal. engine not running. after completed, start engine. run 1500 prm for a short time to clean out excess fluid. that should fix your problem..

Try checking the connections at the alternator and grounds. Seems to be a connection problem. Is your alternator putting out at lease 13 to 14 volts

sound like vacuum leak check replace all old vacuum hoses replace pcv make sure its getting vacuum.make sure spark plugs and wires been replaced.replace fuel filter and air filter clean fuel injectors.code scan for faulty idle air control valve.but do a little tune up see if that helps.most time if i have problems with vechicle i do a tune up make sure engine getting good airflow.plenty of fuel and good spark.i will do a three stage trouble shooting before i find something major wrong with engine.
