1990 Chevrolet Lumina - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Stalling and running rich. I have seen this before on a Camero. The fuel pump was weak. Not making enough pressure. This caused the fuel injector to DRIP gas instead of SPRAY gas. This caused the fuel to flow into the cylinder in a liquid form, and it did not burn well. We put in a new fuel pump and the car came to life. Good luck.

Any brand of antifreeze will work. Depending on the coldest temperature the car will see, the mixture with water varies. The label will have a table on it that will tell you how to mix it with water.

Check for a vaccum leak

On most models, you can disconnect the dogbone mount and pull the engine forward a few inches. Make sure the parking brake is set and the trans is in neutral. Also may help to remove the air filter assembly.

Does the door latch have a child safety lock feature? Check to make sure it wasn't accidentally activated, preventing the latch from opening.

Most likely the starter, does it seem to drag when starting? Other things could be the coil or ignition module.

Does Lumina sedan have rear seat pass thru to trunk ?? if sedan then a pull tab will be in seat upholstery near shelf / by rear window . pull it crawl in with Light Plus friend on outside to hand tools .. IF VAN must remove interior panels to gain access .. Try small thin needle nose pliers to pick broken KEY Piece out of lock 1 ST . if successful spray in Lubricant before trying another key . BUT must be reason lock jammed -- Frozen by weather change or Mechanism Disconnected due to lack of lubrication or worse Plastic Parts used in assembly by Factory .. DRILLING Lock Out will get it Open but new / used parts to repair are now on your shopping list ..

1990 requires R12 freon which is no longer available. Need to retro fit the vehicle for R134a. Take it to a shop.

,your oil filter is in the front of the engine, if you look down where fan is ,first your radiator then the fan you will see the oil filter coming out of front of engine

Make sure your cooling fan is coming on ,if you force the ac on that should make the fan come on after a minute or so if the fan comes on with the ac the problem is either the coolant sensor or the fan motor is going bad

some of these have a battery cover that needs to be removed to get to the terminals and some don`t the terminals are on the side of the battery not on top.

You should have posted BEFORE throwing parts at it. More likely to be CTS (yellow wire, black wire) I believe by therm hsg on your car.

On steering rack

it sounds like an auxcillary drive which isnt used on that model engine ,undo and replace the gasket

in the gas tank.. its electric..

have the coolant system pressure bled to remove all the air out of the system and remove the air lock preventing hot water from getting to the heater core

The car originally had R12. If it has not been converted to R134 you would need to have it serviced by a pro or have someone convert it to R134. The R134 fill kit will not fit the R12 fittings.

Check if the thermostart is not burned thus making connection and your fan run always.For high revs, check if there is no air leak or air flow meter is ok ok adjust your revs

Have you used a meter to check for power at the starter and fuse box ?Are the ground connections good ?
