Sounds like you have lost a shaft(sungear) in the transmission. It can be repaired, but you can get a used one for less than half the cost. Repair-$1300.00+, used - around $500.00

The light staying on while driving is due to one of the door jamb switches is malfunctioned and more than likely going to be the driver door. For the reason being is that's the door that's mostly used than any other on the vehicle. If memory serves me correctly, the switch is located on the inside the door at the lock actuator. The FIRST things you want to check are
FIRE & fuel to each cylinder...
(
spark plugs and
fuel injectors )...
Once upon a time when "MECHANICS" worried
about the mechanicals of an engine...
IF a cylinder
was getting
fire & fuel then
COMPRESSION ...
( valve & ring performance ) would be NEXT on
the list... finally followed by
compression testing
and
BEARING clearances the
VIBRATION damper
(harmonic balancer)...
would finish the most common investigations...
FIRST Looking for "
DEAD-CYLINDERS"
Then getting exotic...
(I'm just saying)
