Check your ground wire. You should have a wire going from the case of the alt to ground. If there is none, get a decent wire and find a screw on the alt and then to ground. If that stops the warning light, get a good wire on good grounds. Is this a new or refurbished Alt ? The regulator is built in on these. Get a volt meter from a friend and see if you are putting out 13.8V when running and it's a solid 13.8 volts. Could be a poor fuse connection (they have fuses but usually soldered into a bump in the wire) or something like that.

Does it crank over and not run or does not crank over at all? If it cranks over then spray some starter fluid down the throttle body. If it starts, then you have a fuel problem. Check your fuel pressure. Some of these v6 require at least 45 psi to start. If it does not start, then pull off a plug wire and check for spark.

That, I believe, goes to the popular but ever elusive chevy accumulator. Its mounted behind the inside right fender, behind all the other clutter. You really have to know where and what to look for. The light staying on while driving is due to one of the door jamb switches is malfunctioned and more than likely going to be the driver door. For the reason being is that's the door that's mostly used than any other on the vehicle. If memory serves me correctly, the switch is located on the inside the door at the lock actuator. Once upon a time when "MECHANICS" worried about the mechanicals of an engine... IF a cylinder was getting fire & fuel then COMPRESSION ... ( valve & ring performance ) would be NEXT on the list... finally followed by compression testing and BEARING clearances the VIBRATION damper (harmonic balancer)... would finish the most common investigations...
